Microsoft Announces Partnership with Netflix

July 14th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I know a lot of SGC members will be celebrating over this news right now: Microsoft has announced that Netflix will be coming to the Xbox 360 at no additional cost.

All the back in May, Netflix ran a survey asking its customers about their opinions on streaming 360 video. A few months before THAT, there were surveys regarding customer interest on the same matter. As if that wasn’t confirmation enough, Microsoft have confirmed the inevitable, which is always nice.

Netflix’s on demand programming will be hitting the 360 later on in the year.

When we get more information, you’ll get more information.

I find their “exclusivity” wording quite interesting. There is still plenty of room for a Sony/Netflix partnership.

“the world’s largest online movie rental service, today unveiled an exclusive partnership to offer consumers the ability to instantly stream movies and TV episodes from Netflix to the television via the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system. Xbox 360 will be the only game system that lets users instantly watch movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix.”

That “really” only says the 360 will be the only game system to allow you to “instant watch streaming” of movies…
