Soul Calibur IV not getting a lesson in Greek mythology

July 6th, 2008 · 1 Comment

A few weeks ago, I reported a rumor that Kratos, PTA President, Masters Champion and the protagonist of God of War, would be appearing as an exclusive guest character in the PS3 version of Soul Calibur IV.

Well, it appears that no matter how hard you wish for something, sometimes, it just isn’t meant to be.

The rumor was debunked in the lasted edition of the 1UP Yours podcast (07/03). Shane Bettenhausen, executive editor for 1up.com, said he had been playing the final version of the game and Kratos was not among the title’s beefy roster of eccentric characters. Skip to the 49-minute mark if you want to hear the news straight from his mouth.

Though I’m not surprised, I must admit that this news is quite disappointing. Kratos is one of my favorite video game characters of all time and I was looking forward to unleashing his unbridled fury upon the likes of Raphael and Lizardman. Alas, it appears that I will have to wait until God of War III releases sometime between now and eternity (probably next year).

Despite this recent news, I still plan on picking up the next chapter in the Soul Calibur franchise when it hits store shelves on July 29. I hope to see some Sarcastic Gamers online after the release. Practice up Soul Calibur aficionados. Astaroth will be bringing the pain.
