Infamous looks to be an electrifying experience

I don’t gamble very often. When I do, it always seems to end badly (i.e. I lose money). Therefore, I tend to avoid poker and blackjack as if they were the Plague.

Luckily, making E3 predictions doesn’t come with a price tag. That is unless you spend too much time at the bar. Fortunately, as a sober individual with no money at stake, I don’t have to worry about the consequences of making a prediction. I predict that “Infamous,” a PS3 exclusive, will be a badass game (going out on a limb, I know).

What is “Infamous” you ask? Find out after the jump.

“Infamous” is a third-person action title from Sucker Punch Productions. The story centers on Dylan, who finds himself able to control mysterious super powers following a huge explosion in the fictional setting of Empire City. The game will be an open-world (read: sandbox) title, in which players will be able to shape their gaming experience through the decisions they make. Players will be branded as a hero or a villain based on the use or misuse of their new abilities. For instance, killing innocent civilians will probably bring the fury of the boys in blue.

The game will feature a much darker, more realistic setting than previous Sucker Punch titles. The studio is best known for the “Sly Cooper” series. The franchise featured cel-shaded graphics and is comparable to the “Crash Bandicoot” franchise, due to its anthropomorphic animal characters. With Infamous, Sucker Punch looks to trade the cutesy animal protagonists for more realistic human characters.

The game was originally introduced at E3 2007, but aside from a few magazine cover stories and a handful of screenshots, the game has been kept under lock and key. With Microsoft’s impressive media briefing yesterday, Sony needed to showcase an impressive lineup of software to mitigate the damage done by the loss of exclusivity for “Final Fantasy XIII.” As expected, Sucker Punch’s “Infamous” was prominently featured during Sony’s press conference. The trailer shown focused on the game’s story, primarily Dylan’s inner struggle as he decides how to use his powers. Check out the video below.
