GTA On The DS Rated AO

July 18th, 2008 · 13 Comments

I think I can speak for everyone when I say I didn’t see this coming at E3. Not only was GTA coming to the Nintendo DS a complete surprise, but the news realeased this morning that the game wouldn’t bother with its usual M rating and will be jumping straight to the ESRB’s highest rating of AO (Adults Only) has left the gaming media speechless. Take a look at the press release (and cover art) right after the jump. Press Release - Rockstar Games - July 18th, 2008

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Whores for the Nintendo DS Handheld System is an all new epic adventure set in now classic Liberty City’s Chinatown district. Taking place two years after the events of Grand Theft Auto IV, you’ll play as an up and coming Triad leader Lik Tang who has just returned to Liberty City after having been forced into exile for killing a warehouse full of high profile prostitutes belonging to a higher ranking Triad member in Hong Kong. With the dust settled; Lik Tang’s cousing Pun Tang has asked for help running the family business, namely prostitution. Taking the best of the Grand Theft Auto universe, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Whores packs all the blazing action, jacking and epic urban adventure in the palm of your hand complete with touch screen and clever uses of the Nintendo DS’ microphone. Look for Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Whores on February 14th, 2009.

a 2d top down view… no thanks! It seems to me highly unlikely it will be something we got used to see on our psp’s due to DS limited hardware. Still, shame there was no new gta for the psp announced.

I find the rating resonable. Parents nowadays get their kids Mature games as often as Everyone games. I know a kid in 4th grade who has San Andreas.

With this rating parents will maybe be a little smarter. Plus we won’t hear as much whining from Jack Tompson.
