This is an idea I’ve had for those who still play Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. If there are people out there considering buying it or maybe a little bit stuck as to what to buy in the game, these sorts of guides can helptoo. Then again, if you’re going to buy Gran Turismo 5 when it comes out in 2009, Sarcastic Gamer will have helped you choose a car a year in advance! If this guide doesn’t prove too popular, I wont try the idea again. But it’s worth a shot.
My first roadtest (perhaps my only one) covers one of Gran Turismo’s favourite types of car, and one of my own favourites too: the 4WD Japanese sports car. I’m talking about Lancer Evolutions, Imprezas and Nissan Skylines. They’ve all got similarly-sized engines, they all have four wheel drive, and they all weigh around one and a half tonnes. Why not have a roadtest and see which is the fastest?
I’ve got three cars lined up. I’ve given them all a rigorous roadtest, given their stats a seeing-to, and I’ll give my own little recommendation at the end for you to perhaps use next time you’re thinking of buying one of the three. I’ll look at the torque (the turning force of the engine’s crank, transferred to the wheels to make them move), the horsepower (a measurement of the maximum power output, when the torque is at its greatest when the engine is turning so many times a second) and the weight of the car in comparisons, and I’ll take the price into account.

Each of the three cars – the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R and the latest Subaru Impreza WRX STi – was driven round the London circuit a few times and the fastest lap recorded. I’ll put it all together to generate an overall score for each car and give you my final recommendations. All clear? Great! Off we go! The roadtests begin on page two with the Mitsubishi Lancer!

Good article. Completely out of left field to be quite honest, but it makes me want to fire up Prologue again. Thank you for reminding me of why I love the Gran Turismo series.
As a side note I found it interesting that you chose these vehicles. A couple weeks ago they compared the Evo and STI on Top Gear and found similar things. Despite the STI’s fugliness it was faster around the track, which honestly surprised me. It’s interesting, but not surprising, that this is mirrored in Prologue.
That roadtest inspired me to do this, but I felt there should be a third competitor just to make the article a little more interesting.
If other people are thinking the same as you, I might well break out Prologue again and do some more roadtests…
great job with that, and im completely agree with the results, the impreza has always been one of my favourites cars.
good article too bad I hate all track racing games lol
Good article but I completely disagree with the results lol. In real life the turbo lag on the boxer engine in the Subaru means it would be left in the dust by the evo and skyline. Also the skylines easier to tune (I use to own one) so it can set up to be a hell of a lot faster than the other two
The R34 can be set up to be faster, but as a road-standard model it’s slower and therefore scored way lower. In PP600 races in GT5, it doesn’t stand a chance.
(Also how did the Impreza beat the Evo X on Top Gear if it’s slower?)
Awesome!
Too bad you didn’t bring the newest Skyline into the game. It would have quite literally PWNED the field.
