Five Releases to look forward to in July

July 1st, 2008 · 7 Comments

June is over. Now it’s time to see what awaits us in July. While the next 31 days are devoid of any huge franchise titles like Metal Gear Solid 4, there are a few diamonds in the rough that make the upcoming month enticing to many gamers.

Follow the jump to see what I believe are the 5 biggest releases for July.

Gears of War Refresh (Xbox 360) - If you missed Gears of War the first time and want to get yourself up-to-date for the upcoming Gears of War 2, this is your chance. In the refresh pack, you get all of the released Gears map packs, and some sneak peaks for Gears 2. If you’ve never played Gears, I’d say this is a pretty good deal at $40.

PS3 MGS4 Bundle - 7th - Ah, Metal Gear Solid 4. The internet has been raving about this game for a couple weeks now, and I haven’t been able to try it because of my lack of a Playstation 3. Well now I have the chance of buying the console and the game for a sweet price. This bundle will contain an 80 gig Playstation 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, and a DualShock 3 wireless controller.

Unreal Tournament 3 (Xbox360) - 7th - If you’re not ready to hop onto the Sony bandwagon just yet, you can pick up Unreal Tournament 3 for the Xbox 360. The game kind of flopped on the PS3, so it’ll be interesting to see how it flops on the Shooter-heavy 360.

Soul Caliber IV (Multiplatform) - 29th - Say what you will about Namco Bandai’s decision to use Star Wars characters, but that choice has given them a lot of easy press. Soul Caliber IV may have been on a few peoples’ radar, but once the news was released that Yoda and Darth Vader were going to be in the game, the internet quickly set on fire with the news. Even with the silly inclusion, Soul Caliber IV is looking to be a fine fighting game that should shorten the summer for fighting fans.

NCAA 2009 (Multiplatform) - 15th - Since there’s not many games being released in July, I hit a dead end for my 5th choice. The NCAA games are extremely popular, but I’m certainly not the guy you want to ask about football games. Especially College Football games. In any case, If you need to get that Football itch scratched, it’ll only be a couple weeks.

So that’s it. There’s really nothing else of note release wise happening in July. If these didn’t interest you, there’s always MGS4 on Big Boss Extreme Hard Super duper hardcore high-falutin’ difficulty.

NCAA Football all the way baby! The ONE repeat EA game that I actually look forward to every year.

unfortunately i plan on buying none of these. I’ve already played gears and mgs4. I don’t care for fighting games. NCAA football will be on my gamefly list but i see no reason to buy it cause personally the demo is exactly what I expected… another decent football game and I’ve already got enough of those. Lastly, UT3 which is a possibility for me, but I don’t see it making a dent in my Battlefield playtime. Thanks for the suggestions though!

I’m buying Splinter Cell: Double Agent! :D

(Inside Scoop: Ubisoft will ne showing off “Splinter Cell: Conviction” at E3)

I might check out Unreal too. But, I don’t know, is it worth losing time on Halo? What a dilemma…
