If there’s one thing that seems to get Bethesda in trouble with their games, it’s that they make their worlds too open. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion featured drug addicts, brothels, and full-frontal nudity of burnt corpses that gave the game a M rating after its release. Yum.
Well, they didn’t pull any punches with the Fallout 3 material they submitted for a rating from the Australian Office of Film & Literature Classification. The the jump to see how that turned out, though I bet you can guess. Our readers are pretty sharp.
According to Kotaku AU and the website for the Australian Office of Film & Literature Classification, Fallout 3 has received a RC, or Refused Classification. Since games in Australia aren’t allowed to receive R18+ rating, titles like Dark Sector initially received the RC and was forced to be edited before being able to be sold in the country. Other titles like Grand Theft Auto IV submitted an already edited version of the game to avoid the RC and recieve the MA15+ rating.
It’s starting to seem like the rating systems in many countries around the world are becoming more of a burden to the industry than it should be. I personally believe that developers should be able to make any game they feel like, and get a rating for it, even if it means only older folks like VinDali would be able to buy it.
As for Fallout 3, there’s no information on just why it got the RC. My guess would be the amount of violence and drug use that’s in the game. It will likely be edited for release in Australia, but the most hardcore of gamers will probably import it like they did for GTAIV when it got censored.
Fallout 3 is set for release later this year. Hopefully rating problems don’t cause any sort of delay.

“The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion featured drug addicts, brothels, and full-frontal nudity of burnt corpses that gave the game a M rating after its release.”
What the HECK? Aside from drug use, there was NONE of that in Oblivion. User-created mods added that stuff in, which the ESRB deemed should get the game an M rating. By itself, there was none of that in there.
Yeah, Ploogle is correct. None of that was in the game, just user mods.
I hope this doesn’t affect us down here in New Zealand with our BS classification rules
i hate the fact that my country is ran by a bunch of old farts.
its times like this i find it funny that the government gives me a incentive to pirate.
I can’t stand it, Australia is every bit up to date with the rest of the world except for games,
We have an edited Heavinly Sword, GTA4, an edited Dark Sector on its way now Fallout 3 isn’t coming, it’s pathetic.
We’re not even getting Rock Band here and Rock Band 2 is almost out, Are we even going to get Guitar Hero: World Tour.
Australia has a strong gaming market with new EB Games opening everywhere and retail stores expanding their games section.
Incase you didn’t know games here are more expensive, a new release game in America is $60 and a new release game in Australia is $120, an XBOX Live Subscription is $100 for us and we don’t even have qore on our PSN.
A few weeks ago in New Zealand a man called the police and said a wombat was raping him, a man threw a hedgehog at a child and a man tried to pay for petrol with weed while a uniformed policeman was behind him in line. I a country like New Zealand is allowed an R 18 rating then Why not us?
The drugs are the one and only reason, as far as I understand.

i agree with fluffy nuts (dude nice name) and game aren’t always $120 go to JB Hi-Fi they sell
New Release Games for $80 always
Even if they did give it an MA i’m sure implementing the new system for R ratings for games wouldn’t take long at all
This is getting really silly. They need to stop playing Big Brother.
