Call of Duty 4: A Match from My Perspective

July 29th, 2008 at 10:00 am · 9 Comments

Somehow, since I joined the staff here at Sarcastic Gamer, I’ve gained somewhat of a reputation for my skills in Call of Duty 4. While I personally don’t believe I’m that good, I know I’m better than quite a few of the random people I end up playing against.
Since I don’t have any way to record my matches and I have a creativity itch I needed to scratch, I ended up writing about one of my games. The result is more akin to a short story than an article. If you’ve ever wondered what went through my mind during a Call of Duty match, now is your chance to find out.

One day, online in Call of Duty 4…
When I joined the lobby, the map on the board was Bloc. Of course, there was the usual chatter and the one random guy begging the room to skip the map. I’m not sure what map these guys want to play, but they always want you to skip. I didn’t mind that much, since it reminded me that I had to silence the players in the match. When I play by myself, I toss on a pair of headphones and mute the voices. It helps me concentrate.
Well, the guy’s wish wasn’t granted. The Ground War room was tossed into Bloc for some good old-fashioned Deathmatch.

When the game finally started, I was hit with my first tough decision: which class to play. Since it was one of my first games of the evening, I went with the tried-and-true Sniper. M40A3 with regular scope, 2x RPG, Stopping Power, and Iron Lungs. I’m thinking about switching to Extreme Conditioning since I usually don’t hold my breath that long.

I digress.

I ran to cover and immediately started searching for my prey. BANG! A 50-Cal took out the guy beside me. Before I could react, I was taken out too. The killcam revealed a sneaky bastard in a position right in the middle of the map. I was 0-1. I spawned and ran into the building my team was defending. I zoomed in to the spot where I was sniped from and there was the culprit, laying in the grass like a pile of leaves. One shot, headshot. 1-1. I guess someone on their team in the opposite building saw me fire. I was taken down by an M21. The killcam revealed 5 shots in quick succession. Get some control buddy….

1-2.

From there on, my sniping career quickly went down the tubes. I managed to scrape out 2 more kills with my trusty rifle, while racking up 2 more deaths. I wasn’t happy. 3-4. I decided to switch to my backup class. I call it the “Ranger.” M16, Red Dot, Stopping Power, Extreme Conditioning. This proved to be the wrong move.

That final run there was rather impressive, reminds me of that one gamer night were you were in last stand with a deagle and held off a bunch of guys from the bomb point.

i remember a time of Search and Destroy. It was the last round, and we had to win it to win. A team killer killed all of us except for me and one other guy. 2v6. We powned em. I got 4 kills and he got the other 2. It was crazy awesome and i shoved it in their faces in the lobby. They were so pissed that they all left. hehe

HA I never play COD 4. One day I had a random feeling, unaware of the source, it lead me to Call of Duty 4. I put it into my Xbox and started an online game, I was shocked at what I found out. I was actually pretty good. I ranked up almost twenty levels in an hour. I have not picked it up since, good times…
