Bungie Confirms New Halo Game With Master Chief

July 25th, 2008 · 33 Comments

I was awoken this morning by a frantic call from Doc, who had just scored our biggest exclusive ever.  The announcement that we’d been waiting for.  The new Halo game. Bungie’s new Halo game for the Xbox 360.

Click on over for the big news.

Bungie leaked the news to us this morning that a new Halo game, a prequel will be released on the Xbox 360 next spring. Following the early years of Master Chief, we’ll see John’s early origin story and his first battlefield experience.  Bungie described it as:

“A younger Master Chief, in the armed forces learning his way.  Full of wonder, John has to come to terms with his military upbringing and being one of the newly christened Spartan warriors. John will come of age with the player. The player will be with him every step of the way.  From his first day at school, to his first kiss, to prom.”

Bungie promises 17 levels, 2 player co-op where the second person will play Cortana, back then a teen runaway, with a heart of gold, that joined the army before becoming the A.I. that we’ve come to know.

We’ve even obtained the title:

Halo: The Wonder Years…

What would you do, if I sang out of tune…

      Nice one Lono!

    • 14 Orakga // Jul 25, 2008 at 1:42 pm

Yeah, I was excited too until I remembered (from the Halo 1 manual) that the events from Halo 1 are in fact Master Chief’s very first mission.

The Spartans were prototype soldiers, but they were all destroyed right before they were able to be deployed into real battle. Our Master Chief is the only Spartan to escape the research facilty on… damn.. I can’t remember the name of the planet right now.

      Good times.

      “Halo: Wonder Years” FTW.

@Orakga-dude, what you read was a lie. Read Halo: the Fall of Reach and you will hear the real story.

LOL! I hope this article gets posted somewhere and someone believes it.

    • 19 Dan // Jul 25, 2008 at 4:25 pm

@that guy who gave the huge paragraph.
      WRONG!

    • 20 njitram2000 // Jul 25, 2008 at 5:06 pm

Yeah, Orakga, completely wrong. John had plenty of missions before Halo 1 and the rest of his team jest happened to not be on his ship when they had to make a random jump and end up at halo. His team is even still alive during halo 2 though I’m not sure when Ghosts of Onyx occurs along the timeline in comparison to Halo 3…

Lol why would bungie give this toolish website an exclusive. Those who were fooled really do earn their “retarded” moniker.

    • 22 iBrick // Jul 25, 2008 at 6:12 pm

      Hahahaha I love it Lono.

I think I’ll head on over to the Bungie forums and spread this morsel of goodness!

    • 23 PaulR // Jul 25, 2008 at 6:23 pm

Wow now that’s creative, now I will buy an xbox. (sarcasm)

    • 24 Lono // Jul 25, 2008 at 6:37 pm

@Cody: Great first post man! Nothing like declaring to the rest of the people “hey look at me, I’m a douche,” in your first post!

Very impressive. But what do I know, I’m just some dude from a toolish website…

      ROFL.

    • 25 Gt177 // Jul 25, 2008 at 7:29 pm

This game will not stick to the storyline of the halo novels. it may turn out to be a good game. however i would prefer it if they stuck to the better story of the novels.

    • 26 tvirusatemywife // Jul 26, 2008 at 4:20 am

@Gt117: Have you not heard of a little thing called FICTION FRIDAY?????

there really are such things as halo fanboys (lol)

This halo franchise is nothing special, only overhyped crap with no substance and generic power rangers.OMG at Bungie they should make a game about bungiiiiiiiie jumpiiiiing.Jump In.Hahahaha.

    • 29 hedfones // Jul 26, 2008 at 11:18 pm

Not a bad write up, not bad at all. I see this site lives up to its name.

    • 30 Halo Wonder // Jul 27, 2008 at 4:19 pm

I defiantly have my reservations about this Halo game. It seems Bungie has stopped beating the dead horse, and instead, stuffed it, and is pretending it is alive.

Prequels are dangerous. They destroy the fun of any story.

    • 31 Orakga // Aug 12, 2008 at 8:31 pm

Okay to those people who corrected me, thanks for pointing those out. I had to find the Halo 1 manual to figure out how I got the facts wrong. FYI, the manual can be downloaded here:

      http://www.xbox.com/en-us/games/h/halo/gamemanual.htm

Basically, my confusion was this. In the manual it states that “The soldiers of the SPARTAN-II project rack up an impressive record against the Covenant in TEST deployments”, which I actually took as an implication that they were never really formally deployed. Ahh the intricacies of the English language.

Anyways, I stand humbly corrected on this.

    • 32 Orakga // Aug 12, 2008 at 8:35 pm

      Oh and one more.

The manual actually says “the Pillar of the Autumn, escapes with the LAST SPARTAN-II…”, implying that all the others were destroyed during the Covenant’s siege on Reach.

So whoever said there are other Spartans alive… I dont know if that’s new lore that was added since Halo 1, but it’s not what the original lore states.

Lores can change all the time though. Warcraft and Star Wars did it over and over again.
