BREAKING NEWS: PS3 Movie Download Service Launched

July 15th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Sony has just announced the PS3’s movie and TV download service is launching tonight with standard and high definition movies and TV programmes available for rental for prices ranging from $4 to $15. Out of nowhere much?

Jump! Jump! Hit the jump!

Sony Pictures, Fox, MGM, Lionsgate, Warner, Disney, Paramount, Turner and Funimation have been confirmed as partners and around 100 videos are already available for download and rental. Programmes can be transferred to PSP via USB cable and can be transferred to more than one device at once.

This has come completely out of nowhere. Rumours were pretty much flying across the net and it’s made a few appearances already, but to have Sony’s Jack Tretton announce that the store is live almost instantly is absolutely huge. It’s not Netflix partnership but it’s a start for Sony’s expansion of the PS3 as more than just a gaming console and part-time Bluray player. Also spotted in the conference was a Search function in the PlayStation Store, but I’m not sure if that’ll be included in today’s update.

The movie download store goes live later tonight, and you can probably go check it out by the time you’ve seen this newspost.

Anyone have any idea if this will availible to the UK
This kinda thing we are always left out of, either not getting content, or just getting it several weeks or months later

I’ll be watching the UK Store to see if anything comes up.
