Ask any “Guitar Hero” or “Rock Band” aficionado which band he/she would most like to appear in his/her music game of choice. There is a good chance that rock gods AC/DC will be a popular choice. Fans have wanted to shred to the group’s legendary catalog since the release of the original “Guitar Hero” back in 2005. Well, gamers will finally be able to do that when “Rock Band 2″ ships in September for the Xbox 360.
As one of the aforementioned fans, you would think that having an AC/DC tune included on the disk would satisfy me. Well, you would be wrong.
Find out the reason for my dissatisfaction after the jump.
When rumors first surfaced that “Rock Band 2″ would feature music from AC/DC, I got really excited. When confirmation came at last week’s E3, I let out a gleeful yelp of joy. Then I saw the song. “Let There Be Rock?” My excitement plummeted in an instant. Needless to say, I was hoping for something else.
Sure, I would love to have gotten “Highway to Hell” or “Thunderstruck,” but I would have even preferred “Girl’s Got Rhythm” or “Money Talks.”
I do not mean to denigrate “Let There Be Rock.” It is actually a pretty good tune. However, I just feel that there are better songs that could have been included.
It is like licensing a Metallica song, but selecting “St. Anger” instead of “For Whom the Bell Tolls.” Sure, fans get to play a Metallica song, but why not include the best song possible?
I have to admit that this is an unfair comparison. “Let There Be Rock” is a good song, while “St. Anger” is complete garbage. However, you get the point. Harmonix, if it was up to them, could have picked a better song.
I guess I should stop complaining and just be glad that one of my favorite bands will finally have a song in a music game. However, I still can’t quite shake the disappointment of the song selection.
There is always a chance that more tracks from the legendary rockers will appear as DLC at some point (20 tracks will be free to download following the game’s release). However, for now, it appears that “Let There Be Rock” will have to suffice. Luckily, the air guitar version of “It’s a Long Way to the Top” is free. I am getting pretty good. I swear.
