Right after the official announcement of Guitar Hero: World Tour, I declared that two songs would have to be in the game for me to fork over another $60. The first one was “Peace Sells.” If Harmonix can nab “Renegade” (by Styx) as well, then I will mail them my money as soon as possible.
If you had told me a year ago that I would consider purchasing Rock Band 2 over Guitar Hero: World Tour, I would have called you certifiable. However, the fine people at Harmonix have made a believer out of me. Surprisingly, it’s not because of the full-band experience or the excellent DLC strategy (though that certainly helps). The final set list was the reason I chose Guitar Hero III over Rock Band. It looks to be the same reason that I purchase Rock Band 2 later this year.
This could always change. The full set lists for both games have yet to be revealed. Also, much of my anticipation is based on rumors and speculation. However, as of this moment, my vote is for Rock Band 2. Want to win me back Activision? I have a suggestion. I call it the “Allow me to play any song I own” initiative (thereby destroying your money-gouging scheme). Not very creative, but it gets the point across.
Located below is the full list of songs that have been leaked. My personal favorites are marked with an asterisk.
Revealed on X-Play:
• Dream Theater or Finger Eleven – “Panic Attack” (hoping for the Finger Eleven version)
• System of a Down – “Chop Suey” (wicked guitar) *
• Red Hot Chili Peppers – “Give It Away” (we need the master recording of “Higher Ground”)
• Foo Fighters – “Everlong” (couldn’t have picked a better Foo Fighters’ song) *
• Kim Wilde – “Kids in America” (I would have preferred “I Wear My Sunglasses at Night”)
• Motörhead – “Ace of Spades” (I dare you to find a more awesome guitar riff at the end of a song) *
• Cheap Trick – “Hello There”
• Journey – “Any Way You Want It” (I demand “Separate Ways”)
• The Who – “Pinball Wizard” (not the best the Who song, but a good one nonetheless.)
Rumored songs reported by Destructoid:
• “One Step Closer” – Linkin Park (“Papercut” is better, but still a solid choice)
• “Peace Sells” – Megadeth (I need new pants) *
• “Testify” – Rage Against the Machine (should have been Guerrilla Radio)
• “American Woman” – The Guess Who (or Lenny Kravitz)
• “White Wedding” – Billy Idol
• “You Oughta Know” – Alanis Morisette
• “Aqualung” – Jethro Tull
• “Bad Reputation” – Thin Lizzy (or Joan Jett)
• “We Got the Beat”- The Go-Go’s (a.k.a. “We’re no Ace of Base”)
• “Man in the Box” – Alice in Chains
• “Spoonman” – Soundgarden (thanks for not picking “My Wave”)
