There hasn’t been a good Sonic the Hedgehog game in 16 years. Sure, the Dreamcast’s “Sonic Adventure” was decent, but it didn’t capture the magic of the Sega Genesis versions at all. The latest Sonic game, “Sonic the Hedgehog” for the Xbox 360 was one of the very few games that I rented from my local rental place, and returned the next day, a good 6 days early. Even in my short time with the game, it has caused me irreversible psychological damage.
This is where I’m torn. Sonic the Hedgehog has become dead to me, and I saw his appearance in the latest Smash Bros game as nothing more than a last hurrah to possibly go down in history with a shred of dignity. Well, the fellas over at Sega have decided to give their prickly mascot another chance to redeem himself. Amazingly, the game is looking really, really good. But I don’t want to get my hopes up.
The game is called Sonic Unleashed. Here’s the video.
The game mixes different parts from the newer games, but somehow manages to capture the feel of the original Genesis versions. This is definitely a game that I’m going to be keeping my eyes on, but Sega has hurt me too much to get my hopes up.
On a side note, the music in the video is awesome. If that’s the soundtrack for the full game, I give them automatic props. That music is an awesome throwback to the original versions.

I was never into the Sonic games and this isn’t doing much to change my mind.Don’t like the setting,it just doesn’t look like a place you would find a 4ft blue hedgehog that can run at 100ooooooom/h you might as as well have the fella runing around inLiberty City.

I remain cautiously optimistic on this game. Also even though Sonic appeared in SSBB he doesn’t have any dignity even their because he is known as possibly one of the worst (if not the worst) Character in the game.

This looks very nostalgic. I can do without the rails parts. Maybe replacing those with slides that sonic can spin through and that would make it perfect my friend.

This game looks pretty cool, but not my style of game.

looks sweet…but Sega has a bad habit of failing to keep my attention. Last sonic game I bought was Sonic Heroes. Yeah, that game almost killed me.

I have been a fan of Sonic games since the second game on the Genesis. I am with you about how sega has treated the blue guy since Sonic & Knuckles. Just put them on Arcade and let it be.

I’m torn. I know Sega can make horrible games that look great in the trailers, but this one so much better than usual. I hope it is good, in my opinion Sega hasn’t realesed a good sonic game since Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast.

Go d I miss platformers.. proper platformers …
Jeez I’m old
LOL
I have to admit to liking Sonic Heroes - it wasn’t great BUT it was better than most Sonmic games.. The truly impressive sonics ended with Sonic & Knuckles I think.
We shall see how this goes tho.. but Sega can cut an impressive trailer….

Woopdedoo. Sonic sucks and that is how Sega works. There is no way of redeeming Sonic anymore, he just sucks, his games suck, and he looks gay. Maybe we can get an Alex Kidd remake instead….
