While we might be one of the tiniest gaming outlets on the Internet, we do have “people” all over the place, and one of those “people” brought us a very juicy tidbit this morning.
Word on the street is that Ubisoft has quietly axed Michael Ironside (Sam Fisher) from the voice cast of the next Splinter Cell installment, Splinter Cell: Conviction. According to our source, Ironside himself doesn’t even know this yet.
We can only speculate regarding the reason for this alleged impending dismissal. Voice guys are some of the easiest talent to work with, because you just bring them in, have them read their lines, and pay them. The latter step in the process could be the issue at hand, but there’s no way of knowing for sure, and I would be pretty floored to get a statement back from Ubisoft saying, “We couldn’t afford him.”
We emailed Ubisoft’s PR, and as of press time, we have… not heard back from them. We will update this piece if we hear more.
Until then we’ve got to “get our butts above the hard deck” and remind you that this is an unconfirmed rumor at this point, but the source from which we obtained this information has never been wrong for us before, and we have no reason to doubt his/her conviction as to the validity of this information.
Now it’s time to sit back and pray this rumor is false. I’d rather issue a demerit to one of our “people” than face the prospect of a new Sam Fisher voiced by Gilbert Gottfried.

ahhh. doesnt matter really.
they can rest assured that no matter how hard they try, they will always be a lesser, Westernized knock off of the one and only original stealth game, Metal Gear! (woop woop)

Do you own stock in them or something?

I hope this is false. Splinter Cell just wouldn’t be the same without him. Especially if they got the guy who does barney the dinosaur to do his voice (shudder).

Wow, bob, you must never have played Splinter Cell… or Metal Gear Solid for that matter. Those games are night and day…
Bob gets the “dumbass” comment of the day…
thumbs up Bob, or should I call you….

If that’s the case then Splinter Cell will fail horribly, Michael Ironside’s voice really set the mood for the story, if he’s gone then you have nothing to set your self apart from all those other spy game’s on the market.

Michael Ironside’s voice for Splinter Cell was amazing. If they replaced him it would be retarded. It would be like making an Incredible Hulk movie, then featuring barney instead of the Hulk.

If they got rid of Micheal, then there is no more point to do this game. It’s bad enaugh that the old stealth system (and possibly Lambert or other characters) was replaced.It would lose jus t about every point the old games made!

I cannot believe this. Micheal Ironside was one of the defining factors of this un-believable series.
It would not be complete without Mike…please, Ubi, hear my cry: hire Mike back for whatever price he wants! it’s worth it! x{
