I realize that even though Metal Gear Solid 4 is one of the best games of all time, some people won’t like it. No one will ever make a game that makes everyone happy. I understand that. What I don’t understand why people dislike the game. How can those that are mesmerized by the games’ awesomeness understand where the haters are coming from? I just happened to do a little research and discovered some reasons that someone would dislike it.

You’re an Xbot
This one is rather obvious. You love all things Xbox related and hate everything Sony related. That is unless the game is a timed exclusive. When it comes out you’ll scream with your fingers in your ears that your version is better.
You’re a Wiibot
There can’t possibly be any of these outside of Japan. If it happens to be the case, I feel so sorry for you and your low standards. I’m sure there’s a number you could call. Did I just make up Wiibot?
You have ADD
The cut scenes are a little too long for you. It’s just too hard to keep your attention on the screen when there are….would you check out that ceiling fan….oh, I hear a car….hey there’s a dog barking outside. What was I talking about?
You discriminate against Mustaches
You may have had a bad Mario experience, or were forced to watch Magnum P.I. in your younger years. Now you fear and distrust the ’stache. Snake rocks it like a porn star, so you automatically dislike the game. If this describes you, you should go to www.americanmustacheinstitute.org and stop the hate.
You have a fear of breasts
It’s no secret that the ladies of Metal Gear have no problem bearing the cleavage. During your game play when you met Naomi aka Dr. Cleavage, you probably shrieked and went to a corner and curled up in the fetal position. You are a girly man. Or a girl.
You’re a Gold Digger
If you seek out old men so you can have access their money, Snake is not the man for you. Although he has some traits that gold diggers would like, like he’ll die of old age at 40, is sterile, and is never home. The fact that he has no money, 3 pairs of clothes and a case of “old man ass,” all told, equals the ultimate deal breaker.
You’re a super Star Wars fanboy
If you are a member pf George Lucas’ cult, then you may have decided that the large metallic hunters known as Geckos are knock offs of Imperial Scout Walkers. If this is the case, you need to know that Lucas is not the end all be all of all things Sci Fi. Oh, and Episodes 1-3 were a mistake! MISTAKE!!!!
You’re a hippy
If you’re one of those peace loving, hemp sweater wearing, patchouli oil smelling weirdos, this is not you’re game. You guys should love this game as a salute to Snake for making it possible for you to have the freedom to smell as bad as you do. He’s fighting huge machines and old age, while you sit around a camp fire and sing your crappy songs. GET A JOB!
These are just a few of the reason’s why anyone would not like this game. I left off the obvious reasons such as: Nazis’, Communists, Pirates, Terrorists, and the Amish. Especially the Amish. Feel free to share your reasons for disliking MGS4 below.

You forgot about pure old school gamers Dave. If you are a pure old school gamer and hate everything newer then the N64/PS1 era of gaming then you will definitely hate MGS4.
You can also throw in the 25-50% of games journalists who seem to have suffered collective amnesia about the previous games in the series and as a result haven’t realised that the cut scene heavy, strange humour laden style of MGS4 is similar to the previous four MGS games they lavished praise over and yet there’s not so much love for the latest one.

Yeah I agree with that but the thing is the cut scenes are awesome and also is what tells the deep story in MGS games which is why millions of people love it. U may say its been 4 years and this is new technology but I could turn around and say why didnt these same sites who gave MGS4 a low score, dock points for Halo 3 for having a mediocre story, graphics that didnt live up to the videos first shown, didnt have anything innovative but yet these same sites who are low blowing MGS4 scores still gave Halo 3 a well deserving AAA-AAAA score and now want to low blow MGS4 score. Doesnt sound like they are being fair with there reviews.
Also there are long cutscenes but what these reviewers forget to mention is there is more then 20+ hours of gameplay in the campaighn alone. That is more hours of gameplay then gears of war and halo 3 campaighn put together. So I dont see why the complaints for the long cutscenes? Especially when the cut scenes are awesome and also ties up all the loose ends to all the MGS games and makes alot of sense. I think most of these angry game sites downplaying MGS4 are just looking for hits on there site but in the end, your site will just be looked at as an unreliable game site with no credability just for the fact of these low scores and obviously nitpicking at the game.
What I would say is yes 4 years since the last MGS game, but, there was a gap between 2 and 3, and 1 and 2, and technology had advanced between those gaps, the cutscenes are part of the franchise, either live with it, or don’t be MGS, simple as.

So… basically they are complaining that the story is too much for them to handle.

heres my point of view
1. the first game was never suppose to have a sequel.
2. the second game was never suppose to have a sequel.
3. big boss’s story was suppose to be the last.
4. A 60 minute cut scene is the only way to tie together 3 games that were never intended to happen. and its a damn good effort in my eyes. MGS Has been brilliant in my eyes since the old NES days…

I hope your not on about the NES version, that one was such a bad port of the MSX2 version that it wasn’t worth the time or effort.
Saying that if your never played the true orginal Metal Gear you will still appricate the NES version, however i found it not half as good.
Tomonobu Itagaki should go work with Kojima on the next Metal Gear game. The breasts will be epic

Complaining about the cutscenes in MGS is like buying a book and complaining about all the reading you have to do.
Long cutscenes are part of the experience that is MGS.

What i really hate is the fact that the playable parts only serve as a bridge for the tedious cutscenes. Why not make a damn sucky movie and a good game instead of mixing the 2?

I loved MGS4, but my top reason why I wouldn’t have liked it would have been the freckin long cutscenes with no substance. They keep repeating the same things over and over again until it drills into your brain. Oh, and the fact that the boss characters don’t have as much personality as in MGS1, where they tell you their stories. In this one, it’s not presented in a fun fashion, the backstory is text, pure and simple.
Great game, not a flawless execution, not Kojima’s best.
Hey, PC fanboys were not listed. Why should I buy a PS3 and MSG4 when I can just play Crysis instead, especially since Crysis does not trade 5 minutes of gameplay for 2 hours of cutscenes.
