Sony has announced that the Playstation Network will be down for regular scheduled maintenance between 8:00am and 2:00pm PST today. This announcement sparked internet rumors that it was somehow related to the imminent release of PS3 firmware 2.40 (which will include the much-needed In-game XMB.) Sony was quick to squash that rumor saying this outage and maintenance have nothing to do with firmware 2.40. Without the ability to view the PS Store or play any online games on the platform until 2:00pm PST, Sarcastic Gamer has prepared a list of what you should be doing on your PS3 until the Playstation Network is back up.
The list is after the jump…
- Play Metal Gear Solid 4 on Liquid Easy (if you haven’t already beaten it on a harder skill level)
- Play Metal Gear Solid 4 on Naked Normal (if you haven’t already beaten it on a harder skill level)
- Play Metal Gear Solid 4 on Solid Normal (if you haven’t already beaten it on a harder skill level)
- Play Metal Gear Solid 4 on Big Boss Hard (if you haven’t already beaten it on a harder skill level)
- Play Metal Gear Solid 4 on The Boss Extreme
- Play through Metal Gear Solid 4 on any skill level while killing nobody
- Play Metal Gear Solid 4 on The Boss Extreme skill level while killing nobody
- Study up on your Metal Gear Solid knowledge with the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database
- Go on an in-game photo shoot in Metal Gear Solid 4
- Perform 1,000 head-shots in a single play-through of MGS4
- Watch Metal Gear Solid 4 video content from pre-order DVD or Limited Edition Blu-ray disc
If none of those sound very fun, you could always take a nap until 2:00pm PST and then play Metal Gear Online…

Dude you can barely play online games with your friends when the service is UP. The difference here is really minor from when its up IMO.
Sorry Doc “Red Flag” there, your the Admin.
Your not suppose to post flamebait
Doc had his first “PS3 in his house” experience this weekend with Dave’s PS3 and it didn’t go well for him.
ah i feel for you Doc. Sucks your first experience wasn’t a good one!
Whilst PSN may be no Xbox Live, i wouldn’t say i was dissapointed with it. i seem to play online fine with it nearly every day
I suspect firmware 2.40’s in-game XMB addition will make a lot of folks more comfortable moving from the 360 to PS3. I mean there’s no denying that being able to send/receive invites and/or messages is sorely lacking today on the PS3. That’s absolutely a valid concern. For someone that rarely plays online multiplayer games (like me) it’s much LESS of a concern.
Also, his experience was limited to Warhawk and MGS4 I believe (and he didn’t care for MGS4) leaving Warhawk to provide his impression.
I would love to have Doc go to Dave’s and play Warhawk split-screen during a SG PS3 Gamer night sometime… although we wouldn’t be able to chat with them both unless Dave had a PS Eye (which I don’t think he does)
So Doc was having problems getting online with PSN? Maybe that explains his absence on Warhawk last weekend.
OR, being as I don’t have a PS3 (too expensive), I could play LoZ: OoT. Which I will.
