CYPRESS, TX - Following the recent release of LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures and the phenomenal success of the LEGO Star Wars titles, Travellers Tales have announced they have secured the rights to LEGO Sarcastic Gamer: The Video Game, to be released some months after the next LEGO game, LEGO Batman.
More on this exclusive news after the jump!
“It’s a new direction for both Sarcastic Gamer and the LEGO toy line,” said “Doc” Adams, founder of the video games blog, which attracts an average 30,000 page views a day. Speaking from outside his home in Texas, Adams went on to say “what an honor” it was to be working with Travellers Tales on this latest LEGO project, which will be launched with its own accompanying set of LEGO Minifigures.

In LEGO Sarcastic Gamer: The Video Game, players can choose to customise their own minifigure or play as Doc, Dave or Lono, the hosts of the site’s weekly podcast, with designs based on those by SG’s regular comic artist MightyMutt. As well as combining classic gameplay elements from the previous games such as building Lego structures and providing simple yet timeless platforming fun, characters will have special abilities: Dave can leap into the game’s audio and edit out the voices of his foes, rendering them useless, for instance.
Other members of the Sarcastic Gamer team will make appearances including PacManPolarBear, available in the generic ice levels to literally eat up his enemies, and Scottish contributor Yamster who confuses the game’s enemies and their conventions of male clothing by wearing a tartan skirt. (Yamster to this day swears it’s not a skirt but a formal piece of Scottish dress, but nobody’s buying that.)
As well as providing the traditional Free Play mode, where players can jump between the various characters to use their special abilities, the Sarcastic Gamer writers are working directly with Travellers Tales in creating a brand new story based around a certain Miami lawyer’s attempt to take over the website and use it to denounce all video games, entrancing the site’s followers into turning against their consoles. LSG: TVG will take players from Texas to Chicago and even across the Atlantic to London before the final showdown in Flordia, with each location accessed from the Doc’s Man Cave level hub.
“It’s a novel idea that we are using in basing a toy line on a website,” commented Chris Sayles, LEGO’s public relations manager, who insisted on shouting his company’s name due to it’s complete capitalisation. “LEGO is always looking for new inspiration and in Sarcastic Gamer we believe we’ve found a great new idea.”
LEGO Sarcastic Gamer: The Video Game is scheduled for a second-quarter 2009 release on all major formats, with the toy line in parallel development.

The final boss fight against Jack Thompson would be so easy. You could win without doing anything because he sucks so hard.

@Bacon
That may be true but not if an evil scientist had invented a machine which transforms suckiness to pwnage!
Can’t believe you didn’t think of that…
