Korean software pirates are… actual pirates

Authorities investigating what was first thought to be a ridiculous lead in South Korea, stumbled on one of the largest software piracy busts in more than a year.  Korean Federal Enforcement agents aboard a rigid-hull-inflatable craft, acting on an anonymous tip, were quite surprised to find a wooden ship leaving a secluded cove about 200km south of Pusan.

“You just don’t see anything like this except in movies,” said one agent. “A huge wooden sailboat, flying the jolly roger.  It was surreal.”

Upon spotting the agents, the ship raised its full array of sails and headed for the open ocean.

“I kinda felt bad for them,” said another investigator.  “They were scrambling around and barking orders, and screaming something about a CAR or a STAR, I couldn’t make it out, but we had our engine on idle and we still caught up with them in less than a minute.”

Two pirates were critically wounded, trying to stave off the federal boarding party.

“That’s what happens when you bring a sword to a gunfight,” said KFE spokesman Seung Li.

On board, more than 200,000 pirated copies of BoomBlox for the Wii.

“I think in a way, they were happy to be caught,” said Li.  “The game just wasn’t selling, even at their black market prices.”
