Something of a historical monument for gamers is close to being history itself. The EA sign outside their Vancouver facilities developed a slight lean about a year ago, and has worsened in the past few months, to a point that officials with the company feared they may have to remove it.
“We don’t have the money for stuff like this in the budget, so our hands were really tied,” said a company official. “But that’s when our fan… I mean fans came to the rescue.”
For more than 45 days, a man known only as “John” has been holding up the Electronic Arts marker. John, who describes himself as simply one of millions of hardcore Electronic Arts fans, said he read about the situation on EA’s website and knew he had to help.
“This company has given me so much, and asked for so little in return,” said John. “I just knew I had to join with all of the other fans to help keep this sign standing. It will never fall! Not on my watch.”
According to John, there are hundreds of other fans on their way to lend a hand, or rather a shoulder, to the effort.
“I think they must have got lost somewhere along the way,” said John. “I’m sure that any minute a horde of rabid EA devotees is going to come around that corner and show their love for the company… any minute… that corner right there…. any minute now… any minute.”

i sense a video game death coming out of this. DONT STARVE, JOHN!!! YOU CAN MAKE IT! (yes, i know it’s friday)
whatever would we do without that EA sign?
John, you are a saint.
Sorry John, I’ve been having to drive instead of flying so I could pay for all of those EA Sports games, I’m such a fan of old games with new players and gimmicky features.
Hmmm, help john or play beautiful Katamari, both such great choices.
It’s a pity that it isn’t the whole of EA about to topple.
I agree the cheap bastards probably will charge John for loitering
When I read all the comments on this article I flipped out laughing.
John, try using bailing wire or duckt tape instead of your sholder.
HAHA!
they don’t have enough money to fix the sign?
Are they really that tight with their money?
Man that is sad!
Maybe EA could use all the copies of games that never sold to prop the sign up…
