Does Kratos have his eyes on Soul Edge?

June 25th, 2008 · 6 Comments

I usually try to avoid spreading rumors (quite unsuccessfully I might add), but I just read something that caused me to shriek like an excited opossum (do they even shriek?).

This fresh rumor reveals perhaps another guest character in the next installment of the Soul Calibur series. Relax Star Wars haters; it’s not another character from a galaxy far, far away.

Continue on to meet (or re-introduce yourself) to the rumored warrior.

Yesterday was an exciting day for fans of the God of War franchise. First, a particularly juicy rumor circulated around popular video game blogs that God of War III will be making an appearance at E3 (starts July 15). Raise your hand if you want a teaser trailer (I think I just heard my shoulder pop).

What’s that you say? Even if E3 does bring new information on Kratos’ first PS3 adventure, gamers probably won’t get to control the murderous Spartan until 2009? Not so fast. You might be able to wield the Blades of Chaos much sooner than you think.

Destructoid reported yesterday evening, based on information in the newest issue of EGM, that Kratos is rumored to be making an appearance in Soul Calibur IV. With an active (playable) roster that already includes Darth Vader, Astaroth and Nightmare, this recent tidbit has the potential to take Soul Calibur IV from great to indescribably awesome. Apparently, the folks over at Namco want to assemble the most extensive cast of badass characters ever. They are succeeding.

Since the God of War IP belongs to Sony, Kratos would be exclusive to the PS3 version of the game. Sorry 360 owners. However, if this new rumor is true, you would understandably assume that the 360 version of the game would include an exclusive character from the Microsoft library. Will we be seeing Master Chief, Frank West or Marcus Fenix in Soul Calibur IV? With rumors of a new Killer Instinct coming exclusively to the 360, wouldn’t Soul Calibur IV be the perfect opportunity to re-introduce the likes of Fulgore and Glacius? Just a note, the past Killer Instinct games were developed by Rare (currently under the Microsoft umbrella).

What do you think Sarcastic Gamers? Do you like the idea of Kratos in Soul Calibur? Do you think Namco will bring a second exclusive character (in addition to Yoda) to the 360 version? Sound off in the comments section below.

I don’t play fighters, but this is TOTALLY a good idea from a marketing perspective if they can manage to tune the “novelty” characters as well as they have the characters that were always intended for use in the game… overly powerful characters can ruin a game of this type, as can adding an overly powerful character from another game and then “dumbing them down” to be equal with the rest… it’s a tough thing to get “right”.

I’m assuming all these characters are unlockables and not available from the get-go…

Touche Father Time. I haven’t owned a handheld system since the ice blue Gameboy in the late 90s. So, I can’t play Chains of Olympus.

Kratos is rumored to make an appearance? Ha. I can’t count the number of people who have requested speculated or gone ‘if only’ regarding Kratos being in Soul Calibur.

Methinks that this was started my people who really want this to be true and it’s more of the old ‘if we say it often enough maybe it will turn true.’ tactic that we’ve seen from xbots in regards to MGS4, with Nintendo fans in regards to ridley being playable in brawl and with Sony fanboys desperately trying to shoo away bad reviews of Lair.

Or maybe it’s a case of start a rumor so that Namco will hear our pleas. Either way I give it very little credence (same goes for the E3 trailer).

I just re beat GOW II. Man, the way Zues is all like, “I see the sisters of fate have helped you!” Or something, then Kratos is all like “The sisters of fate are dead!” Such a badass! He has to kill everything he meets. And then when he is all like “The gods tremble at my name, Zues is weak, Ares and Athena are dead!” God such…a…badass. Hope this is true. I will take Kratos on everything, even on cereal.
