I purchased my copy of Battlefield: Bad Company from my local Gamestop. This store in Broadview, IL is the only Gamestop I frequent because of the nice people that work there. There are EB Games and Gamestops that are actually closer to where I live, but I like this store just fine and reserve all of my stuff there, when the feeling moves me.
Anyway, I got my hands on my copy of the Gold Edition of Battlefield: Bad Company, took it home and popped it into my Xbox 360…. And got the Dirty Disc Error… Is my Xbox 360 broken… again, or did I get a Battlefield Bad Copy?
Find out, after the jump!
Even though I was able to play online for most of the evening on the first night I obtained my copy, getting the game to even work was a daunting task. It probably took me at least 10 separate attempts to get the disc to run, and when it did run, the single player campaign was unplayable, as I would receive the dirty disc read error in almost the same spot on each attempt.
Online was a bit smoother, although I did have to restart two times after successfully entering a multiplayer game.
Yesterday was the last draw. After running my disc drive cleaning CD, I thought that the problem was resolved. It wasn’t and when I got home yesterday I was unable to play for more than a minute or two before the game shut down on me with disc read error problems.
That was the last straw. So I took it back and got my replacement copy. It seems to work okay so far, so I can only assume that it was the disc that was defective.
My next question is: Are there any other people out there having the same issues with the Gold Edition? Let us know in the comments.

Why? We’ve always said we liked the game, we just didn’t like EA witholding content, on the game disc, for a price…
They changed it and, as we’ve always said, I bought it on day one… I don’t see the problem.

Smells like a damaged disk if single player was crapping out in the same place every time

New disc works swimmingly… No real problems…

I’ve had no problems here.

Although I don’t own Battlefield, I had a similar problem with EA’s NHL 08. The game would constantly give me dirty disc errors and the game is basically unplayable.

I got a dirty disc error the very first time I put the non-gold edition in. However, I believe that’s due to my 360 inching towards the Disc Drive o’Doom and not Battlefield itself. I haven’t had a problem since.

Aren’t the dirty disc errors pretty common on the 360?

i think EA doesnt do thorough checking with their cds cause some time ago i was trying to play my madden 2005 one gamecube but then before it went to the main menu the disck stopped running saying there was an error …so now that your saying this i definetly think its EA that’s causing the problem. I dont trust EA or microsoft lol ps3 for life !!

idk, why you waited that long to go back and return it; once you get that error you better run that white butt of yours to gamestop and demand a new game.

I had the same problem with Medal of Honor: Frontline on the original Xbox. Ended up returning it, then I bought Sam and Max Hit the Road with the money.

My friend on XBL also had a defective disk, it wouldn’t let him play some maps and he returned it to Gamestop and got another one and its working perfectly because we were able to party up and play every map.

Soooo….. Lono starts the whole boycott of BF:BC and when the game comes out he buys the Gold disk with the auto-unlocked weapons…. and that disk was bad?……. uh, karma?

Lono, nothing to report from GeezerGamers. I haven’t heard of one of them getting a bad disc. Sorry.

On my 2nd copy of BF: Bad Company because of same problem. Cleared cache as MS suggested, but problem is still there. I’m at wits end.

I’m getting an “unable to read disk” message and it kicks me out of single player. Haven’t tried MP yet. Mine happens at random times. I’m hoping this isn’t an issue with my 360 again. This is kind of when things started going downhill for my 360 the last time glitches started. I have regular edition of the game. This sucks. guess it’s time to go back to target and try another copy.

I accidentally received 2 copies from a half.com preorder and both crash in the same exact spot before the first level gameplay gets under way. Seems like the game to me. I am a little annoyed…

I’m having a problem with multiplayer. I have the Gold Edition.. first few weeks, it worked perfectly. Now, I can only play a FEW games then I get this problem to where it seems like the 360 is having a hard time reading the disc. Weird thing is, I can still play, and I’ve YET to receive a “Disc Unreadable” error. Most would assume that it’s lag, but you can tell there’s more to it. When I get the problem, I back out onto the Main Menu, and the scrolling message at the top of the screen is skipping around as it would when I was playing a game. I usually have to go back to the dashboard for a brief second then return to the game to fix it for another few rounds. It’s not the 360, b/c other games run fine.. so yeah, Imma have to get another copy, that’s for sure.

I bought the regular copy of the BC… and i get it all the time when i play…. very upsetting. and on top of all this my friend bought the game at the same time and same place and he has the exact problem as me… i haven’t taken it back yet to try that so we will see how that work i guess lol
