Sony, wake up! Stop pushing Haze over MGS 4.

June 3rd, 2008 · 22 Comments

Where are all of the MGS4 commercials? There aren’t any running on TV, all the ads are in magazines. Could it have something to do with the anticipation of the the NEXT and maybe LAST Metal Gear game? My question is why are we getting bombarded by Haze commercials, instead of MGS4 commercials? Maybe they don’t have any fear that it won’t sell. To be honest, I’m pretty sure it’s gonna sell like hot cakes.

But… Isn’t it better to be safe than sorry?

I do however see tons of ads for Haze. I know that they’re trying to lure some unsuspecting victims to the store to drop $60, but it still doesn’t make it any less annoying. GTA IV, one of the biggest games of all time, has had ads running continuously to make sure that the last three people on earth capable of buying M rated games that don’t have it, go pick it up.

I understand that the game has a huge following, but what about those that never played any of the games? What about those that don’t go to websites, or read a gaming magazines? How are they supposed to differentiate the game from everything else other shelf? Isn’t this the KEY tentpole game for the PS3? Isn’t MGS4 supposed to be THE reason to game on a PS3?

Come on Konami and Sony, you should be shouting from the mountain tops louder than James McGreevy that this game’s coming out. This is the one that the PS3 owners have been waiting for. Don’t lose a sale because some guy says, “I saw a commercial for Haze, it looked fun.”

There should be flags and fireworks, not a lowly ad in Gamerinformer.  Why am I the one that has to do all the dirty work here Sony.  Get on this man.  There’s only one week left until Solid Snake gets here… MOVE IT.

I have noticed more and more of a trend in advertising where companies don’t show commercials and ads for products until the day of (or a couple days before) release. Hell, sometimes you don’t see advertising for a product until up to a week after the initial release. I agree that they should be shouting about this game everywhere right now but I expect to see ads for MGS4 around the middle of next week right before the release.

lol…..Dave. If someone saw a commerical for Haze and bought that instead of MGS4, then they don’t deserve to play MGS4. In fact, they don’t deserve a Ps3.

I’ve never seen a Haze commercial. Maybe that’s because I only watch American Idol and 24, though.

Anyway, I do think Sony should pick up on this stuff a little better. MGS4 is gonna be good; no one doubts this. But Sony thinks that everyone knows about it, and they don’t! Personally, I think they should’ve let Haze’s hype go and poured it into Metal Gear.
Besides, only Bungie themselves can make a so-called “Halo Killer” anyway. ;)

I reckon that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo should not do the advertising commercials and billboards and so on, but leave it to the company themselves to, instead of showing favouritism to one game.

      @ heavenley yeti
completley off topic, but what the hall happened to 24, i know there was the writers strike, and then bauer went to prison (in real life this time), but where the hell is it
      ineed my CTU fix

      BACK ON TOPIC HERE

I think it’s freaking insane that they aren’t advertising MGS4, it isn’t the only reason to own a ps3, but it’s a damm good one

I was just wondering last night when (or should I say if) they were going to start advertising MGS4. Yeah, it’s a “fourth” in a series a lot of folks new(er) to gaming may not have played, but it’s a mega-budget flagship title… if sales are affected by lack of marketing, that’ll be really stupid. I can’t help but think it’ll kick up the day the game (and various bundles) are released though… I can’t imagine Sony troubling themselves for a bundle and then not advertising it. It _has_ to be June 12th. Also, why June 12th? That’s a Thursday… what happened to Tuesday release day? MGS4 is special enough for its own release day but no TV spots? I doubt it…

Maybe because haze has now been released, and met a less than joyous response sony might start to give more mgs4 tv time. A week isn’t anywhere near long enough for something this big but you can have a fairly decent impact if you push hard enough in 7 days.

Isn’t it possible that the producers from Haze are paying for the advertising and Sony has NOTHING to do with whether they advertise or not!?

    • 11 Lurkero // Jun 3, 2008 at 3:38 pm

Actually, the GTAIV commercials that I have seen have been paid for by Microsoft. They all have the Xbox360 logo after them. So unless MS shelled out the money to Rockstar for publishing, I don’t think Sony played a part in it.

I did see commercials for Uncharted and Ratchet however, so maybe Sony cares more about the 2nd party studios.

I agree instead of showing so many commercials of that sorry a$$ haze game they need to be showing tons of MGS4 commercials so this game can go beyond the sales it had with mgs3. I think sony is stupid if they dont start advertising the crap out of this since this is one of the biggest titles of the year if not the biggest one out of them all.

I just want to ask why does the sarcastic gamer think Sony needs to push MGS4 in the first place. Every site on the internet is advertising MGS4 for them for absolutely nothing. For once the internet fanboys are helping Sony for once, even though their intent is to bash Sony, the end result (advertising) is what matters. Any fan of the series knows the game’s coming, and they know they’re getting it regardless of what the intrawebs are saying.

Haze on the other hand needs good advertising, cuz the fanboynet’s intent to bash Sony worked perfectly on Haze. So if the game’s not advertised it wouldn’t get any sales from people who look on the web for game info. Haze’s advertising seems to have worked too, cuz besides all the people bashing Haze on the web, the game still has decent sales.

MGS4 sells itself, Sony has to sell Haze.

First of all, it’s the publishers that are responsible for ads. There are Grand Theft Auto IV commercials that come with just a PS3 logo after them. I’ve actually seen more PS3 ones.
Second of all, if you’re in North America you probably won’t see ANY MGS4 ads because Hideo Kojima said that there won’t be much marketing push behind the game. Just put it all to rest!!!!

    • 15 Jake // Jun 4, 2008 at 4:28 am

More people, such as people who were into or getting bored from COD4 and GTAIV (I know it just came out, but its really a difference in who plays it) are eager to seek into Haze. They’ve familiarized themselves with it. Sure everyone knows what MGS4 is. But really, everyone thinks its a dumb Japanese TPS like Lost Planet, but this time you are an old guy. My brother, and my next door neighbor (both on the highschool varsity football team [I know, terrible steriotype]) aren’t into that kind of thing. Its just a fact of life. If Snake was a badass, supermuscle sneaky-guy in the future, who wouldn’t buy the game?

    • 16 Neotokio // Jun 4, 2008 at 5:16 am

MGS4 as far as the preview-reviews are comming seems its more and more a for-fans-game, not a good think, not a top seller and not european-american minded. So yea, maybe even Sony knows it’s gonna dissapoint more than Haze has… Omg Haze its so sucky game….

    • 17 Ryan // Jun 4, 2008 at 1:17 pm

LOL, did Neotokio just say that MGS4 will do worse than Haze???? Because MGS4 isn’t geared towards Americans and Europeans?? Not a top seller?? Sony “KNOWS” it’s going to “DISSAPPOINT”???? LOL!
That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all day. Are you a wagering type of guy? I think I could make some money off of you!

    • 18 Max // Jun 4, 2008 at 4:52 pm

They are pushing Haze because it is a bad game that doesn’t show off the PS3. They Know that MGS4 will sell like crazy, but they are worried about Haze.

    • 19 carlos !!!!!! // Jun 4, 2008 at 5:40 pm

if they advertise too soon they will be sod out and the costumer will probably buy a different gam. which could mean a 360 or wii game. The later they start then the more constant sales they willhave after the game goes on sale.

    • 20 Echlon // Jun 4, 2008 at 10:13 pm

just wanted to throw this out there but i have haze and i think its a great game, the story line is amazing better than most movies that are coming out now a days, but ya sony needs to do more advertising.

    • 21 FlintSteelton // Jun 5, 2008 at 1:23 pm

Does MGS4 really need commercials? I mean, it’s Metal Gear Solid.

    • 22 Platinum_Seet // Jun 5, 2008 at 5:52 pm

      @FlintSteelton

You’ll be surprised how many people didn’t know GTAIV was out until they’ve seen the commercial or someone else playing it.

For instance when I was in high school I never kept up with game releases I would wait until
A.) A friend got it or it was a Blockbuster
      B.) I saw the commercial
