The Wii, a world wide gaming phenomenon that’s found it’s way into millions of households all over the world. This feat has been done without HD graphics and limited online play. Game Funk has decided to announce to the world the Wii’s fatal flaw, and it’s not that if handled improperly your Wiimote could end up in your TV, eye or out the window. When I read the article a couple of days ago I thought, “everyone knows this. Why is this news?”
Then yahoo picked up the story, so maybe everyone doesn’t know. Well, here it is, in all it’s glory.
Game Funk broke the case wide open. Guess what? The Wii doesn’t have any good games for it!! Shock! Gasp!
Is this new? I think we’ve known this for a while. Actually it’s not that there aren’t any games to play, there aren’t any games worth playing. I can only think of a handful that I would rent, AND SSBB ISN’T ONE OF THEM!
Now, before the Wii faithful get upset, and we know there’s a lot of you out there, I do want to acknowledge the games that could be worth while. There are all of the franchise games that include Mario, Link, Samus, as well as the Resident Evil games like RE 4 and the RE: Umbrella Chronicles. There are a few more titles like No More Heroes, or the highly anticipated Boom Blocks. Other than that, all you’ve got are cross-console titles like Okami, GHIII and Rock Band. If you own multiple systems the Wii is not going to be the one you’d buy GHIII for.
On to the other titles like My Horse And Me, does that sound like something that is going to sell 100,000 copies? It sometimes seems to me like the people at Nintendo are hoping that if they continue to throw titles out there, the uninformed masses that I have seen in the Wii section at Wal-mart will buy them. Unfortunately, they’ve been right so far.
It’s comical, because I think they base their judgment on the games with the coolest titles (definition of cool varies from person to person) and nicest cover art. I almost want to walk over and try to inject some knowledge about games into the situation, but I know Mom isn’t going to tell her 10 year old that she can’t have the Hanna Montana game.
Game Funk has the full story here. Tell us Wii owners, do you feel you selection is a bit small?

It’s going to bite them in the butt NEXT TIME. Right now people are buying this crap but when the NEW Nindo comes out…. People will opt for something other than a bookend for their money.

Did Lono buy a Wii? This is a “Dave” article…
Well, whoever did… you made a mistake there.
If you’re a Wii fanboy, why?

The only Nintendo worth having was the SNES. Everything since has just been ‘meh’. Two failures and two gimmicks. (I didn’t even mention the Virtual Boy).

Just listened to the podcast…
I correct myself.
LONO! WHYYYY?!!!! WHY?!!!!!
You’re crazy dude! It was a publicity stunt. Or just plain idiotic. Or maybe he actually thinks he can “get fit” off of “wii fit”. *sigh*. What’s happening to the world?
Did a new Attorney game come out on the Wii? Or a PixelJunk Wii? Is that why? I don’t know…
I lost some of my respect for you Lono…

Am I the only one who fails to see the logic in saying “The Wii doesnt have any good games, appart from #,#,#,#,#,#,#, and cross console games like #,#,#,#,#,# and of course #,#,#,#,#,#. But OTHER than that, there are no good games”
Am I wrong or do you defeat your own argument by indeed proving there are good games?

@Brian: Nope… I see it too. Sounds to me like they want to make it SOUND like there are no good games, when the issue is the pure shovel ware taking up shelves alongside the REALLY good stuff. (And that is a problem.. Im the first to admit it.)

@ Brian & Diortem
5 or so “good” games out of 200, sounds pretty close to no to me.

All right since I am the Nintendo fanboy extrodinaire (according to ShockwaveLover). I will shine some light on to the situation, Nintendo is screwed (console wise, handheld wise they are doing fine), unless they unveil some big games at E3 then there isn’t much hope for Nintendo this year (aside from a couple of titles such as Alone in the Dark and Star Wars: the force unleashed and maybe a few others.) Now I’m saying this from a hardcore gamers perspective, They already released their two big titles of the year and there really isn’t much else I want to buy that hasn’t already com out on the Wii, however, knowing how secretive Nintendo usually is with its games it wouldn’t surprise me if they unveil some big games at E3 or later this year

@Dave:
Your own article lists 10! (9 if you dont want BOTH Mario titles listed, despite just listing the franchise.)
Plus you forgot Sam & Max, DragonQuest Swords, Alone in the Dark, GhostBusters, Harvey Birdman (Dont care how short it is, that is funny stuff), ect… and these are just titles that draw me off the top of my head… never mind what Nintendo may well have hidden OR what titles that others might want that clearly are not in my taste range.

Interesting, but you could easily make this argument about PS3 and the 360 too, game line ups have been discouraging across the board. I won’t buy a system until it has 5 games I want. I own the Wii and I have yet to buy a 360 or PS3.
The only games I want that aren’t on the Wii or PC are GTA and the latest Devil May Cry.

Well
Wii Good Games - Legen of Zelda Ocarina of timeMetroid prime 3, Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil 4, Resident evil Umbrella Chronicles Super Smash Bros Brawl, and all the VC games
I am not a Wii fanboy or anything I am saying it has good games on it
And it is a good consle to own if you already have a PS3 or a 360 to play the nintendo games
19 Logan // May 6, 2008 at 6:05 pm
Lol i meant Twilight Princess, and i forgot to add Okami

i guess i’ll be labled a fanboy, but i own about 15 wii games, and about 4 xbox 360 games. i dont just buy anything either, i have such a huge backlog of games that i make sure to only buy highly reviewed games that i know im gonna put some time into.
both are great systems, but it just seems like for pure fun, the wii keeps hitting the nail on the head. the games are much cheaper too.. i dont even think the average wii software price is $50..
anyway to verify that im playing good games.. here it goes.. raving rabbids(prolly the worst wii game i have, but damn fun with a couple buddies), wii play and links crossbow training we’ll scratch off.. they’re toss-ins. mario galaxy, brawl, twilight princess(not the best zelda game, but still a great game), ghost squad, house of the dead 2 and 3, zack and wiki, no more heroes, mario kart, super paper mario, trauma center 2, etc.
to say that the wii has no good games is just silly. there IS far too much shovel ware for it, but thats what happens when a console has such a a huge install base and low development costs.. it’s easy money for c-class developers. as a wii owner, you just need to learn to filter out the crap when you go to the game store.
