Haze comes out today and all of the early reviews are out. Is it the “Halo killer” Sony has been waiting for? Is it a dud? While I have only played the demo, let’s look around the Internet to see what the rest of the gaming world thinks about it.
Famitzu gave it a 34/40 and Italian PSM gave it 9/10. Sony fanboys were going wild, finally the “Halo killer” had arrived. Then IGN dropped a 4.5 out of 10 BOMBSHELL, sending everyone reeling. Even the developer said, “ouch” and felt the pain. It also received a 6.5/10 from Gamershell.com, leaving me very confused.
Who, or what is Gamershell.com?
These reviews are at opposite ends of the spectrum, so it’s hard to get a definite answer about this game. Since I have only played the demo and I have to admit that I was underwhelmed by it, I can’t make a decision. I know it doesn’t hit stores until tomorrow, but have you played it? What did you think of it?

I don’t think anyone was calling this the “Halo killer” after the demo popped up on PSN. My fellow PS3 owners on N4G seemed to have pretty mixed opinions regarding the quality of the game based on the demo experience, and this is apparently being reflected in the media.
It’s hilarious that IGN gave Haze a 4/10 on graphics, yet GTA IV had similar severe aliasing issues, and they gave it a 10/10 on graphics.

Remember though that IGN had the exclusive rights to the premiere of the review of GTA IV, so it doesn’t surprise me that it got a 10/10… The guys that made Haze must have made IGN wait an extra day, hence the bad score… You do not mess with IGN! If they want to sell out, you had better let them, or else!

apparentley they hald back copies from the reviewers until the game came our, which is a great sign

The game’s not out until thursday… They didn’t hold back copies…
It just sucks that it got such a bad review… well I was going to pick it up on gamefly anyways… so it doesn’t really matter to me…
They gave lair a horrible review, but I still enjoyed it…

I’ve played the demo and wasn’t too impressed, but I don’t really get the severe reaction from IGN. It doesn’t seem any worse than Blacksite which got a score in the mid 6s.
It’s generic and flawed but I don’t see how it’s any worse then the hundreds of other bad FPSs that get released every year.
I’m not going to get into the IGN bashing deal because it’s not all that appropriate in this case. They’ve given good reviews to games they didn’t have exclusives on.
The only thing I can conclude is that they’re punishing the game as an assault on all overhyped games which fail to come even close to expectations. Jeff Haynes does come across as the serious type who might.
It’s not fair on the game itself, but like all “exemplary sentences” if it has a wider effect then it’s a good thing.

@balaamsafe: Yup, the Official PlayStation Magazine pondered why they hadn’t received a review copy - combine that with the huge influx of advertising currently on TV and in magazines, and you’ve got Ubisoft trying to milk a cow for all its worth before everyone finds out it’s a contaminated cattle batch.
I need to lay off the metaphors.

You’ve got to look at it like I do, 6/10 is the score for an “OK” game that has a few issues, if it got 6.5 that means it’s above average! And anyway, of course IGN gave it a rubbish mark, there wasn’t a cheque stuck to the box when the game arrived.

once again ign shows who pays the bills over there and they have the letters m and s in there name.
haze is a halo killer and everyone knows that watch as everyone who has nothing to do with ign gives it game of the month

I played through the single-player campaign on the demo. I thought the Nectar was a cool idea, but besides that, I felt it was just another first-person shooters. I also don’t like the idea that you are forced to switch sides. At least allow me to choose my own path. I would rather be able to use Nectar than have to trick super soldiers by playing dead. However, Free Radical lost me at 4GB install.

Halo Killer? Pretty weak. If your evidence that the game is great by the fact that it “kills” another game that’s been dead and rotting for months now then I’d say there’s a problem.
I doubt Haze will do much. Call of Duty 4 was more of a Halo killer. It took on Halo 3 at it’s peak and stomped Halo 3 to death since the day it came out. Halo 3 was top of the XBL list only before COD4 was released.
Let be serious here. Just think… does Haze stack up to the actual Halo killer, COD4? The fact that it hasn’t given off good impressions tells me NO.
