While details about Resident Evil 5 have been trickling out, many Wii owners have been itching to find out if the next-gen version of the popular franchise would find its way onto their system of choice. Fear not, faithful Wii owners! Nintendo and Capcom have teamed up to bring an exclusive Resident Evil story to the Wii, and they’ve given Sarcastic Gamer the first look.

Take the jump if you dare.

Resident Evil: The Tom Nook Chronicles follows the story of a namless boy who arrives in the town in the dead of night only to find out that something has gone terribly wrong. After a taxi drive through the pouring rain from a very chatty turtle, you’re dropped off at the town hall with no direction in an unknown town.

When you enter the town hall, your immediately met with a sight of horror that’s only the tip of the iceberg as to how dark the story gets. Among the corpses of the animals laying in the town hall, you find a shovel to arm yourself with, and then you’re met with the culprit of the massacre around you. A pinkish squirrel with a flower in her hair comes stumbling out from the back office towards you, and the game finally starts.

From there, it’s up to you to arm yourself with whatever possible to fight off the once populous of the town, and make your way to Nookington’s where all the clues you find throughout the town point out as the origin of the disaster.

Our demo at the game started counting down when we found our first firearm after dispatching Booker with our almost broken shovel. As with previous Resident Evils, the finding of a weapon was met with a new kind of enemy appearing – the Gyroids. When we left the police station, they started climbing from the ground, letting out creepy tones as we shot them. The countdown and our time with the game ended as the first boss appeared, or bosses I should say. Timmy and Tommy, nephews of Tom Nook and apparently hopped up on a refined version of whatever infected the townsfolk appeared, eager to stop our investigation of Nookington’s.

Get ready for Resident Evil: The Tom Nook chronicles when it releases this October for the Nintendo Wii. This isn’t your mother’s Animal Crossing.
