Over the weekend, I was all set to write a post about how you can divide the world into three types of people: Docs, Daves and Lonos. (Confession: I was trying to make it to the front page.) I had the outline in my mind.
I asked my wife to listen to a couple of recent podcasts to validate my belief that I am a Lono (prone to going off the deep end, emotional, condescending at times, etc.). Naturally, being an ardent anti-gamer, she refused to listen. I sweetened the deal by offering to help do some of the preparations for a big party that we threw on Saturday, and reluctantly, she agreed.
I randomly selected Episode 32: Lono’s Got a Brand New Bag. (Read on-it may not have been so random.)
I think it was about fifteen minutes into the show when she told me that I’m a Dave. I was shocked. I was mad. I was defiant. I asked her to reserve judgment until the show ended (at that point, she already informed me that she would not listen to another show).
When Lono made his comment that the 360 was the “Russian Roulette of video game consoles,” I said, “hey, that’s something I would say.” She shrugged her shoulders. When Lono went off on Doc about how he didn’t even know the name of my own team, I reminded her of the tantrum I recently threw at a car dealership (long story). When Dave made the “my hood against your hood” comment when discussing GTA IV multiplayer, I shuddered a little bit, since that actually sounded like something I might say. She pounced on it, as if it sealed the deal.
I wanted to be a Lono. I was convinced I was a Lono. Lono is a lawyer. I’m a lawyer. Lono has a temper I have a temper. Lono can be mean. I can be mean. (I could go on.) I was actually offended at being labeled a Dave. I had always thought of Dave as the whipping boy, the sidekick, the unintentional butt of the joke (think Hank Kingsley from The Larry Sanders Show). But you know what? Dave is pretty clever. Dave is more inclined to interject one-liners, sort of pick his spots. Dave is talented; who doesn’t look forward to the “Dave, take us out” segment?
In retrospect, I would rather be a Dave (no offense Lono). In fact, I’m proud to be a Dave.

I think that I am a bit of Lono, a bit of Doc and a bit of Dave. But I reckon I am a bit of Rothbart and a bit of PacManPolarBear aswell. (I may be prone to singing along with someone I don’t know…)
I’m probably a bit of everyone on the podcasts… I am everyone! I am Cod! Lol… I think I am slightly more Lono-like…

Hmm, I think I would probably be more of a Dave. I would like to say I was a Doc, but I think Dave and I have a lot more in common. Now don’t get the wrong idea here. I am MUCH smarter than Dave (sorry Dave) in my opinion.
Anyway, I like to sit back and listen to conversations and then interject my own thoughts. I’m usually the guy on the sidelines, and I can be the butt of quite a few jokes. Just like Dave.

I’m a Dave. I do work behind the scenes, but I’m lazy and have to force myself to. I make dumb jokes, but every onece in a while I’ll get one gem that is funny. And I’ve been a Dave fanboy from the start, so…

I’m a-mused that anyone would want to be a Lono… didn’t I hear he loses at Wii golf? What self-respecting gamer - scratch that - MAN loses at a golf game?! To his 3 year old! Mwahahahahaha!
I’m content being Krel-dizzle (and I don’t suck at Wii Golf).

I’m probably a bit of a Doc since I laugh at anything and everything, and a bit of a Dave because a lot of my jokes are self-deprecating. See? I just called myself a Dave so you can see my point.

I’m definitely a Dave. I listen to other people talk then throw my (sometimes witty sometimes not ) commentary on their conversation when I fell so inclined. Whether or not it’s funny, it’s thrown out there.

I’m like Doc, I keep saying things only to realize what I said a second after the jokes start.
Like in a game where you fight people, I said I had to beat them off(Darn) , before I could retract, It was started.
