GTA IV is a fine game, deserving of the scores it’s received. Now, I know many of you out there don’t agree with that, whether you don’t like the series or have been one of the unlucky few to fall victim to bugs. This article isn’t for you. I’m writing this because after getting further in the story and spending quite a bit of time online with the game, I feel something is missing.
No, it’s not Hot Coffee.
Take the jump to find out what I’m talking about.
A lot of the chatter over the internet is with regard to complaints about how GTA IV took a step back from San Andreas. I can see that. I’m not going to say it was a good thing. All I’m going to mention about the matter is that it makes sense. GTA III was a departure from the first two, with Vice City and San Andreas built upon the engine and ideas from that game. Whether it be in the form of DLC or retail discs, I can definitely see GTA IV getting the same treatment down the line.
I didn’t like San Andreas much. The countryside felt forced and some missions felt like they took forever, when it was actually the 10 minute drive to get across the map. Sure, you could find Sasqwatch, but it’s a 25 minute hike up the side of a mountain in the middle of nowhere. I feel that Grand Theft Auto is meant to stay in the city. While stealing a tractor from a farmer was fun - driving it down the highway for 10 minutes to get to the city wasn’t. GTA IV feels like it’s just the right size, which allows chances to open up islands using DLC.
That’s not what I feel is missing from the game.

I like the Zombie Invasion idea but with more of an I Am Legend twist. I think it would be very cool to see some DLC where when the sun goes down all hell breaks loose.

Fixing the severe aliasing issues with the game would be nice.
Playing it on a 61″ DLP HDTV makes me wanna weep. I’m always tempted to pause it and spend my evening counting the jaggies instead of playing…*sighs sadly*
Resistance has spoiled me. <3 anti-aliasing.
On topic…Yeah, zombies would rule.

All I would have liked is less needless driving. Nothing like driving four minutes to get to a mission that has you drive another three minutes…just to get blown up on the way back and have to do all that driving over again.
Nothing worse than a grade-a story being sidetracked by stale…long…repetative missions. that’s where they f’d up in my opinion. Multiplayer is fine and more modes would be great but is at least good as it is.

yeah and then the zombies steal cars and drive around. What the heck r u talkin about? Sure, zombies would be cool but THIS IS GTA and no death rising/resident evil clone.
Add bigger garages for more cars, more arcade games in the bars, a few more houses to enter, maybe the possibility to buy property and a chance to create your own radio station with custom sountracks from the hdd but pleaaaase drop all zombie/dinosaur/lasersword ideas asap

I miss the ability to own property (night clubs and strip clubs).

@Cody
But this is the perfect game to have it. You have a huge city with countless people to turn zombies (fast would be nice akin to 28 days later)
It would give another mode to have fun with your friends online. It would be just like free mode but instead of the people of LC just walking around, they turn into crazed zombies and chase after you. The “safe zone” could be the prison where you start, and you have to make you way to X while evading zombies. There would be vehicles around, but most would be destroyed already or just don’t work. Huffing it on foot would make the game really sweet when there’s hundreds of zombies after you.

I would’ve liked to have seen more weapons and vehicles really.
I mean know they wanted to make it more realistic (but really is a rocket launcher and grenades realistic?) but they could’ve included the katana, chainsaw, and perhaps some silenced weapons.
It would’ve been nice to see a couple additional helicopters, some jet skiis, and bicycles. The car and motorcycle selection was nice, but other areas could’ve been fleshed out more.

I personally think the weapon controls suck ass! I would much rather have a FPS control of the shooting because I could bust some caps in some thugs asses, but the current controls really sucks. With that said I do not agree with these 10/10 scores because there IS room for improvement, not just with the weapons but also with some other areas of the game, but overall the game is really good. It does a great job telling a story and it keeps you entertained, but it still could have been better which means that maybe it should have received a 9.25 out of 10 or something more realistic because the perfect game will probably never be made in my opinion, but if programmers would listen to gamers and get our feedback then maybe someday we will really see games deserving of the 10/10 rating.

I would like Less Crashing™. Damned thing crashed on me again last night… single player too…

I don’t miss the RPG element because that is not really what the game is about. I want GTA not the Sims. I was dissapointed(not much) that there where less weapons, helos, and no places to buy. If there was a Zombie DLC that be sweet. It should come along with stat tracking for online to(I can’t find it if there is some). I’ve lasted hours on six stars, and it be nice to prove it or something. Also i have never ran into a bug, so I can’t really say anything about that.

GTA 4 has great visuals, effects, and physics. Vice City had a nostalgic theme. San Andreas had a variety of tasks/side-missions, and was addicting to run around and replay. The RPG element was cool, but having to level back up when starting a new game or such, really sucked.
More weapons, variety of vehicles, dual wielding, and more open areas would be great. LC was too narrow with streets and no open-havoc-wreaking-areas. No apache was disappointing too. I miss sitting around for hours just lighting things up with rockets. Now the FPS drops with just a few explosions.

@Rothbart: What is it with you and game consoles/video games not working for you? LOL

I want airplanes. I loved driving airplanes and they were more fun than helicopters. Also the jetpacks in san andreas were awesome. I know jetpacks don’t fit into the GTA IV story line but to have it just for fun would’ve been nice.

i realy think that rockstar should do more in gta 4 i mean the skills that CJ had in san andreas r a great thing to do i realy thought they would put it in 4
15 Erock // May 22, 2008 at 9:36 pm
“Also, I would fly a helicopter around in circles for hours if need be if only for it to become more drivable.”
I hear what you are saying, but I would prefer it to stay a matter of skill in which case the Helo’s become more drivable simply because I as a player get better at driving them.
I like the RPG element for leveling up weapon accuracy though. And they should have scrapped the lock-on feature & just had everything be free-aim.

I’m just hoping that gta5 will come out when I’m old enough to play it!
18 Carlito33 // May 23, 2008 at 1:02 am
I’ll have to go with Alymon and say silenced weapons. Cause let me tell you, it sucks to have to out run the bacon everytime I pop a flying rat in the street. Other than that being someone that has never really played through any other GTA’s I can’t really compare.
Now.. as far as this whole.. GTA meets I am Legend/Resident Evil game mode idea you started floating around, all I got to say is…. Damn that sounds like fun! It has absolutely no tie in whatsoever to GTA but who cares?! It’s takes place in a city based on New York, being born and raised from there let me tell you, some weird s*** goes on at night… See now I can’t stop thinking about it!

For me the biggest dissapiointment of the entire game was that the vast majority of the buildings are still just fancy looking boxes that take up sapce. i would like to see a smaller cit, say the size of 1 island where you go inot everyhouse and shop. This would make chases much more organic. I also feel its a shame that most of the Game Niko spends saying he’s strapped for cash when in actuality , you have asilly amount of money with nothing to speand it on.

i think you should be able to rob banks and stores whenever you want like in vice city/the godfather that would be sweet also an ability to bribe the cops like in the godfather would be nice so you dont always have to run from them whenever you shoot your gun
21 Platinum_Seet // May 27, 2008 at 11:55 pm
@Slaughter
They are good controls in single-player combined with the lock-on your pretty much invincible and in multi-player it’s pretty much TPS because no one turns on auto-aim….
22 waz // May 28, 2008 at 6:19 am
GTA 4 just doesnt feel the same as older gta games.it feels a lot more restricted now with weapons as thers not as much now like golf clubs and chainsaws.and plus the fact that theres no planes in this game.can you imagine if rockstar made an online game where you could have a dog fight with planes.there was a lot more to do in san andres like up CJ’s fitness and aquire driving and flying liscenses.

Re-brand Liberty City as Gotham and give me a Batman mod. I’ll settle for zombies, though.
