Gaming moments that mock my existence

Video games often act as my escape from the real world. Ratchet and Clank never call me an unemployed, lazy waste of space. Actually, no one calls me that, but perhaps someone should. These gaming incursions are often therapeutic and allow me to relax after a stressful day of doing nothing.

As part of the core gaming audience since early childhood, I have played many games in my lifetime. For every moment of jubilation, there has been a moment of utter frustration. Games should be challenging, but some seem intent on driving you to the brink of insanity. Have I ever thrown a controller? Yes. It seems almost like second nature at this point. However, the fact that a game has caused me to throw a controller signifies a problem. I need anger management you say? I think not. I think it is shows that developers, despite all of their wisdom and knowledge, can set the bar too high. What are the moments I would like to forget? Find out after the jump.

1. Earning five stars on Raining Blood on medium in Guitar Hero III.

I realize that this isn’t a difficult task for some Guitar Hero aficionados, but I find this song to be somewhat difficult. It remains the only song I have not five-starred in career mode. I have expressed my disdain for this song on numerous message boards. This usually leads to at least one Slayer fan commenting that I only hate it because I am not good at the song. I disagree. The song itself doesn’t appeal to me. I can play the song, but I just can’t earn five stars.

It is this one song that prevents me from unlocking the “Jolly Rodger” guitar. I am going to assume that it has something to do with pirates. Based on the equation pirates = awesome, I can only conclude that I need this guitar. There is a cheat to unlock everything in the game, but I prefer to complete challenges on my own. I have come close a couple times, but was supremely disappointed when my 100,000-plus score was not good enough to net five stars. I will keep trying, but this seems like it might be out of my reach. However, I used to say that about playing career mode on hard and I have made significant progress on that (currently on tier 7).

I’m just getting started. Hit the next page for more.

      I didn’t realize that Zero’s missions were thought of as so difficult…. Sure, I replayed a few of his missions a couple of times, but I believe that I finished them all… including the one you talked about. Anyone else have problems with zero’s missions?

      Zero missions were a bitch i wanted to kill him every mission i did for him i died a little inside
      (for revenge i kill over 4000 pedestrians they have it coming)

      @ bruce182: You´re absolutely right! The campaign of C&C3 is just a pain in the a$$. There´s this mission where you have to defend a base and bazillions of enemies are attacking you from each side imaginable. And you have limited credits, so you can buy actually nothing to keep them away. I stopped playin C&C3 because of this mission.

      I think I was some kind of sadomasochist growing up because I actually loved Simon’s Quest. Can’t put my finger on why these days, but I loved it and beat it several times.

      Simon’s Quest was the first game I ever mastered as a child. I remember being able to beat it from beginning to end, acquiring every item along the way without a break.

      Now? I get slaughtered pretty much by the first screen. We just cant adapt to those unresponsive NES controls anymore.

      Right there with you on Raining Blood on Medium -_-

      @Lono

      I cleared Zero’s first mission with relative ease. However, that second one gave me fits. It is obviously possible, but I guess I don’t have the patience necessary to do it.

      @Bum Hand

      I would hate to see what you do for fun in GTA if 4,000 people constitutes revenge.

      Boss battle mode in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, has caused a lot of annoyance.
      Why?
      Because of Tabuu and the fact that you cannot conitue.
      For those of you who are wondering what I am talking about let me explain.
      In Super Smash Bros. Brawl once you beat the Subspace Emissary you unlock boss battle mode, in boss battle mode you have no lives and cannot die otherwise you will have to start from the beginning. To get come trophies in the game you have to beat boss battle mode on hard and intense difficulties. Now this mode isn’t that bad, you can get past most of the bosses easily if you use the right character. The problem however lies in the final boss fight against tabuu. See the thing with Tabuu is, is that he has an attack where he launches red rings from his body and getting hit by one of the rings=instant death (basically this is the red ring of death in VG form exept it is the red rings of death not ring), so you have to dodge them and this isn’t easy considering he launches about 4-5 at you.
      So you die and have to start the whole thing over. You could see why this would piss people off
      also some of the events are annoying on hard in SSBB.

      I agree with Lono, Zero’s missions were not that hard.

      Call of duty 2 on hard on the other hand is impossible to complete!

      I think I’ve had some of my most frustrating moments in Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion! Some of the quests in the mages guild take hours and hours to complete, and I die over and over again. Anyone else relate?

    • 15 TeenRacer6 // May 24, 2008 at 12:44 am

      @LewisRocks93

      I wish I could beat it again. I beat it once for Career mode in expert but now i cant do it aagin!. The mosh still gets me, plus a funky tilt on my old, abused cherry SG, means if i move it up by an inch during raining blood, it acrtivates and leaves me in the lurch. But during One, when I have to activate star power, I have to throw it over my other shoulder and wait like 3 second for it to finally activate.
