A few weeks ago, I wrote an article that questioned decisions made by the G4 television network. Based on comments from the community, it is apparent that I am not the only person who is dissatisfied with the network’s current programming. It appears that the executives at G4 are getting serious about improving the quality of their current schedule.
Find out how after the jump.
In an official statement released earlier today, Neal Tiles, the president of G4, announced that he has struck a deal to bring Gametrailers TV exclusively to the network. The show, which is hosted by game journalist Geoff Keighley, currently airs on Spike at 1 o’clock on Friday nights/Saturday mornings. However, the contract between the two entities expires at the end of the year.
Keighley expressed his excitement to Sarcastic Gamer.
Seriously, who watches television at one o’clock in the morning? No one. The move to G4 will allow GT TV to air in primetime. I have already bet Sessler that I will win an Emmy before he does. X-Play is decent, but it isn’t GT TV. Who cares about challenges from Mr. Sark? Who the F%&k is Mr. Sark? Sounds like my 8th Grade Science teacher. Gamers want gameplay videos and trailers.
Tiles admitted that this wasn’t his initial plan. “My first idea was to air 10 hours of a grizzly bear on a unicycle,” he said. “I guess this is fine too.”
G4 has been attempting to bolster the amount of gaming content in its lineup. On June 2, the network will begin re-airing old programming on weekdays for three hours beginning at 9 a.m. Tiles is hoping that G4 Rewind, along with the agreement with Gametrailers TV, will silence critics of the network.
“I can’t tell you how many times I have found flaming bags of poo on my porch,” he said.
Adam Sessler, co-host of X-Play, said he has mixed feelings about the deal.
I respect Geoff’s work, but he isn’t in Kansas anymore. This is the big leagues and he needs to realize that I am the top dog around here. Well, at least when Morgan (Webb) is out of the room. She clearly wears the pants in this relationship.
Gametrailers TV will begin airing on G4 sometime in January. A timeslot has not been finalized, but early indications suggest the show will air after X-Play on Fridays. Rumors have the show running for an impressive six hours and feature a few game trailers, numerous adds for Cops 2.0 and five hours of dead air. The show will also be available online at G4’s web site.
Tiles said the network is currently negotiating a deal with Microsoft to make the show available on Xbox Live. G4 has already made content from Attack of the Show, The Block and Code Monkeys available for download on XBL. When asked why the network wasn’t negotiating with Sony, Tiles, who was wearing a 360 t-shirt and ball cap, said he doesn’t like to associate with companies in last place. “We don’t take kindly to Sony and its PS3 around here,” he said. Sarcastic Gamer will keep you posted as additional information is made available.

Ummmm…hehe?
Dag nabbit. I knew that this was fiction Friday fluff, but I still just hoped…
G4 sucks so badly, and nothing short of a miracle is going to bring it back.
Just when I thought G4TV programming couldn’t get worse, I saw an advertisement for a new show during the commercial break on X-Play. Is the new show about games? No. Is the new show about technology? No. It’s called HURL! The premise is that they get a bunch of idiots to compete in an eating contest and then they whirl them around in Human Gyroscopes. The last one to barf wins. I’m not farking kidding either. WTF kind of TV is that. That sounds like something worse than what MTV would air.
Honestly, I think this guy is just another douche for G4’s repetoire. He acts like a total dick to the company he’s grateful toward? Sounds great.
I assure you I am not for G4 (except for AOTS and X-Play).
fiction Friday?
yeh, g4 sucks sooooo bad. if i don’t happen on xplay- i won’t watch. there really is nothing else that network has that is remotely interesting. all their other stuff is just plain spit!
