Finding a Wii in the wild is like finding a female on our fourms, it’s exceedingly rare and if you do find one it’s by mistake. Finding a good Wii game is about as difficult. When I was finally able to get a Wii, without waiting in line, wrestling MILF’s at the local Best Buy, or paying double the price on eBay, it wasn’t a sense of anticipation or excitement…
It was instant buyers remorse. Click over to see if the Steven Spielberg touched party game could change all of that.
Why did I have buyer’s remorse. Well, the simple answer is that the games for the Wii, by in large, are not made for me. They’re made for kids and people that are relatively new to console gaming. The “causal gamer” if you will. Yeah, I know. I’m breaking news here… Well, anyway, while searching Wii news for something to do on my little white box, I discovered Boom Blox.
Make no mistake, this game is made for kids. To my surprise and general satisfaction, this game is made for everybody. In all of my years of playing video games, I have never played a game that was so accessable from the get go, yet so deep in it’s design. The game’s fun for a 5 year old or a 32 year old hardcore gamer.
Here’s what its all about. Gravity, more, or less. The game is a collection of puzzles that basically task you to blow sh!t up and knock stuff down. Theres a ton of variation of this, but you get the idea. The “blox” are the foundation of the whole game. They’re different types of “blox” that do different things and when they’re constructed into a structure, it’s up to you to take it down either with up to 3 other friends, or by yourself.
The single player game will have you tackling ever-increasingly difficult block structures to see how few shots it will take, to knock the whole thing down. You’ll also play “Jenga” type games, where you’re tasked to remove as many blocks as possible before a structure falls apart. In destruction type puzzles, you’ll be throwing baseballs, while in others bowling balls and in a few, bombs. These bombs can explode on impact, or with a button press of the Wiimote.
Gravity effects everything in Boom Blox, which is where the differences in baseballs, bombs and bowling balls really display how well the game engine handles it all. Everything you throw, knock down, or move around has a real weight that can be felt, even if it’s all in your head. That believability is what makes Boom Blox such a great game. You really feel like you’re affecting the environment. It’s a tactile sense that I didn’t even feel in Wii Sports, where the motion controls are generally spot-on.
The single player really brings out that inner perfectionist in all of us. Each puzzle will rate you with a bronze, silver or gold medal, depending on how many times you attempted to achieve your goal, or points scored. I never felt frustrated, but when it takes you three baseball throws to knock down a puzzle and you only get a silver, I constantly said to my self, ” how the heck can I knock down this bad boy in just one throw…” Yet I’d go right back at it, because I knew it was possible, and I wanted to see if I could do it. You can’t ask much more from a game of this type.
Read on for my take on the multiplayer and my overall thoughts on the game, on the next page.

It looks amazing fun to be honest, I’m not a great fan of the Wii, but earlier this week as I’m ill I got to sit down and actually catch an episode of “Playr” done by the guys responsible for “Gamer.TV” over here in the UK. And god it looked like it could be fun.
The fact that it comes with a level editor built in is an extra bonus, and overall it looks like an amazing family game, but not another one for your average 25 year old to play when drunk.
Over all it looks like it could be an amazing game, the graphics style fits the genre perfectly, but the gameplay looks like it will be challenging, but fun as well, as Playr mentioned that their will be upto something like 100 levels or more!

I really hate Boom Blox right now. I’ve been managing to resist the urge to buy a Wii for the 3 or 4 games I actually want to play, but this might tip me over the edge.

Bought it last week but didn’t have much time to play it as I was off painting my whole house.
The last 24 hours, my shoulder is so sore from playing it so much!
Seriously! Do some stretching, some yoga or prepare for rotator cuff surgery! Even painting my house has nothing on this game.
AND YET I CAN’T STOP!!!!!
I either have to force myself to take a break, or figure out how to throw with my left arm without looking like a complete jackass.
Guess I’d better start practicing!
Sincerely, Lefty
