Not long ago, Uwe Boll, answering questions about what was, at the time a small online petition, asking him to stop making awful game movies, told the media that if that petition ever had a million signatures on it, he’d vow to end his film making career. That was about 150,000 signatures ago. Now, in this video on Youtube, he appears to be getting a little nervous.
How do I know? Well, nervous people swear a lot. Hit the jump.
Keep in mind who we’re talking about here. The is UWE FREAKIN BOLL, producer of such incredible cinematic masterpieces as BloodRayne, Bloodrayne 2, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, and the highly-anticipated film adaptation of Postal.
Perhaps it was the fact that it takes Uwe about 4 films to accumulate the number of star-ratings that most films see independently that drove a few gamers to petition that Boll never make another movie.
A horror movie site caught up with Boll and asked him what his thoughts were on the petition.
“18,000 signatures doesn’t convince me,” said Boll. When asked how many WOULD convince him, he replied that for a million signatures, he would quite movie making.
That was 3 days and about 160,000 signatures ago. Now the producer reviled by gamers for making lackluster “ports” of their favorite games to the big screen seems to be getting nervous. As the word spreads at a rate of roughly 40,000 signatures a day, Boll called on both of his “fans” to start a counter petition in favor of him (currently sitting at about 3500 signatories, many of hwhom have Boll as their last name. In the sad, desperate video below, Boll strung together a good bit of profanity as he lashed out at the likes of Michael Bay, and called himself, “the only fucking genius in the business.” If by genius, he means Brittany Spears crazy, then he’s right. Have a look-see.
Additional videos are also surfacing. I hardly believe Boll will live up to his vow to leave film making at the 1 million signature mark. I mean, his films don’t have a lick of integrity, so why should he?
He went so far as to say he would hunt you down and kill you for writing negative feedback to him. Well I guess this little stunt is ONE way to increase awareness of your next masterpiece. Hopefully it will sell more tickets than Dragon Siege (a whopping 4000). If what we are actually seeing here is a marketing campaign for Postal, it’s going to be one for the record books.
But right now, it sure seems like it’s Boll, that is going “Postal” right now.

Lol, what an idiot. But anyway, keep him. We don’t want to have him back in Germany

Why do people hate Uwe? Quality-aside, his movies are quite amusing.

postal movie?!
a petition for him to stop making films, isn’t this kinda ironic somehow?

I’d rather have a kick ass movie for one of my favorite games, than an amusing one.

That first one is one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a while. If he’d just give up on video game based abominations and make a documentary that explains his “genius” in depth, he might actually make a good flick.
And as much as I hate to admit it, he’s right about George Clooney.

So who wants to be the first to send the real name and adress so he can track you down and rip you apart? I’m rather interested to see if he would do anything other than make another video and curse at you.

This guy has made some of the funniest movies, unfortunately, that’s not they response that they wanted. Here’s a link to the trailer for Far Cry for those interested.

I agree with Doc. I don’t go to see videogame movies to be amused by the directors interpretation of the idea, unless the movie is based off a game surrounded with humor, like if they made a Disgaea movie, for example. Though if they do make a game based off that one, I still wouldn’t want Boll within a million miles of it.
If I go to see a movie based off one of the games I enjoy like Bloodrayne (yes, I actually enjoyed the first Bloodrayne game, but not enough to play the second), I don’t want to see a movie version where the action sequences look like they were made in my backyard with my friends and ketchup.
In the end, I think the biggest problem I have with Boll and his directing is not that he massacres videogame movies, but the fact he can make some of my favorite actors and actresses look like they haven’t even finished acting school yet. Perfect example is once again BloodRayne. Ben Kingsley is brilliant in virtually everything I see him in, yet in that flick he looked like he was afraid of the camera. Probably more afraid of the person standing behind it since he could see his career in trouble with every line he spoke.
(interesting note … one of the two words I had to type to post this was Postal … I smiled)

I do not really mind if he keeps making movies just stop making them about video games. Also if he is such a genius how come he cannot grasp the English language.

Germany apologize for Boll

Haha.
This is just priceless.
let’s go for a million people.
I want that pathetic waste of life down the drain.
His movies are an insult to my intelligence.
He doesn’t care the slightest of his films.
The best part about his remarks, where he attacked Michael Bay as well as Eli Roth, was Eli Roth’s response: “Best compliment I’ve ever received”.

i just signed this petition. i have no beef for this guy, haven’t even seen any of his films actually. other then he is unbelievably arrogant and in no way humble, yet i haven’t even heard of him. which is an instant loss of respect in my book. hell this guy is more arrogant then Michael Bay, but Michael Bay has a few well rated, somewhat good films under his belt. and is good enough to of heard of him. I’m a film student and i haven’t even heard of Boll till now. Shows how much of a “genius” he is when i have studied greats like Martin Scorsese, John Cassavetes and even recent greats like Darren Aronofsky…yet never heard of him, some “genius.”

The petition has almost hit 200K - go team!

first off the postal movie sucked for the most part … but then again Doom sucked too and it wasn’t by boll but by some other dipwad.
I also see no reason to apologize for him no brit, canadian or american has ever done that so f**k that and if you have a look at “alone in the dark” which show that he can make decent movies.
²Franko: michael bay has a big studio and production company ( Bruckheimer w/e ) behind him.
As a film student ever heard of Bernd Eichinger and he is a great film maker too not as director but as producer and writer as Boll is … so looks like your filmschool is quite focused on american filmmakers i.e. did you ever heard of Fritz Lang?
anyways … yet another usless petition

why do so many people hate him and his movies? the man’s just trying to do something he’s passionate about, albeit rather badly, but he’s hardly harming the industry. if you dont want to see any more of his movies its as simple as not buying a ticket (assuming it’s not straight to dvd).
26 mike // Apr 15, 2008 at 12:47 pm
It’s the fact he thinks he is making good movies, when in reality they suck long and they suck hard.
