Yesterday, I talked about some games that I’ll be buying for the 360, that I feel may be a bit overlooked with all of the GTA IV and Gears of War 2 Hype. Today, I want to bring to light three PS3 games that I believe are being overlooked with all of the hype surrounding MGS 4 and GTA IV.
Forget what you know and check out the hawtness and one suprise, after the jump!
While there’s a dearth of PS3 exclusives right now, this fall, Sony is going to be churning out exclusives in their attempt to capture the hearts and minds before Christmas. Let’s take a look at three exclusives that should be at the front of the hype train, but are riding in the caboose.
SOCOM: Confrontation Release date 9/18/08
Description: (thanks IGN!)
“SOCOM breaches onto the PS3 in high-definition with the ultimate next-generation online combat experience. SOCOM Confrontation focuses on online play and the global community and clans that support it. With support for Tournaments, Clan Ladders, Leader Boards, this fourth title in the multi-million unit selling franchise is exactly what SOCOM fans have been clamoring for. Additionally, players will be able to modify their appearance through facial and physical customization. A global-scale experience, SOCOM Confrontation gives players the opportunity to battle against the best and brightest from the U.S., Europe and Asia. SOCOM Confrontation deploys with five new North African themed maps, including a 32-player version of “Crossroads.” “
The bottom line: I have really high hopes that this will be the new Call of Duty 4. Previous Socom games were great, and with 32 player online multiplayer, tons of customization and clan support, this could be what the doctor ordered to break my CoD4 addiction.
Check out the last two, on the next page!

Not entirely convinced that SOCOM is going to live up CoD4’s standard but the customisation might be interesting.
The multiplayer in Resistance 2 sounds like it’s going to be ridiculously huge, so as long as the maps are big enough it should be fun.
Love Pixel Junk Monsters and I hope the expansion pack is going to improve it even further. Downside is it’s ruined Desktop Tower Defense for me… Why can’t I upgrade by dancing in my towers

yah, I really want to be positive about the PS3’s offerings, but PSN sucks so bad that even though these games may be really great online, PSN may ruin it.
Only time will tell…

WHAT ABOUT GT5!!!!
But I hadn’t heard of socom:confrontation untill now. I think that’s what is going to make me buy a ps3.

Besides the delay of HOME, PSN should be getting some pretty nifty updates I believe in the Summer, such as in-game XMB.
I mean I see a lot of people saying PSN sucks but I would like to know what you would want in an online system that PSN does not or is not getting in the near future.
I have loads of fun playing CoD4 over PSN with no problems really barring the occasional lag from a player.

I’m thinking Resistance online will be a safe bet. Insomniac seem quite keen on developing standardised tools for the platform and you’d think if you were going to do something like that you’d make sure it didn’t suck first.
Everything else could go either way with the way the PSN is

Honestly cant wait for socom, if its anything like the original socom 1 or 2, not the 3rd (definately not the 3rd). It will seriously break me off from any other online game, the previous socom games just had everything you needed and this generation for me on the PS3 has been lacking all the features and gameplay those games had imo, and soon that gap will be filled…well hopefully anyway.

Hey.. personally I think u overlooked alot of games here: Final fantasy XIII(!!!!), Killzone 2, Little Big Planet(!!), GT5(!). All of these are great games, plus these are only the tip of the iceburg!

This is Lono’s list… I’m pretty surprised RFOM 2 was on it. I guess I expected these to be smaller or somehow likely to be overlooked titles… RFOM 2 is arguably one of the absolute biggest titles coming out this fall. Sure, there’s MGS4 and FFXIII, but as for premiere PS3-only franchises… RFOM is at the top.
That said, I too wish a lot of people slamming PSN detail exactly what it is that’s missing from PSN itself. I’m not saying there aren’t missing features, but (like I’ve said many times), i think they’re incorrectly attributing that to a deficiency of the Playstation Network. It’s really a topic for another day, not to derail Lono’s comments.

Who has said that FF XIII is coming out this fall? I keep seeing it but it hasn’t been announced and I’ve heard that it won’t come out until fall 2009…
If anybody has any concrete info, spill it.
Besides, I don’t think FF XIII would be considered “underappreciated” do you ?

ps360ii the whole point of this article is talk about games that haven’t been overlooked or considered block buster titles. The ones you mentioned have plenty of coverage and hype to last them for years. When is the last time you heard someone even mention PJM let alone give it credit for being an awesome 10.00 game. It won’t be making any magazine covers that’s for sure.

Hey dude,
CoD4 couldn’t hold Socom’s jock strap. BTW, the release date is 9/16 not 9/18..
You write about video games and don’t even know there released on a Tuesday? sheesh
16 Bricheous // Apr 24, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Rothbart,
you’re absolutely right. PSN is still young and growing and yeah its missing some luxuries but I can still play games online with my PS3 just as easily as my 360. I’m not sure why there’s so much negativity over PSNs lack of features thus far when the system only hit a year and a half ago. Anyways, I think I’ll go play Warhawk just to prove the fact that SONY is still in good shape as far as online content.

It’s the gamefly release date, and by the way, it’s Vanilla, not Vanila…
Maybe you should spellcheck before you try and insult me…. LOL

Lono, you’re such a PJM fanboi!
Really though, other than SOCOM (I never really got into those), you nailed the other two.
