Take-Two still not flinching

With GTA IV’s April 29th release date fast approaching, gamer anticipation and media coverage has already reached Halo 3 levels. The game seems primed to break previous sales records and give the anti-gaming establishment yet another far flung reason to hate on our chosen entertainment medium. The only major concern gamers have about the title is EA’s impending offer to acquire Take-Two. While EA’s purchase of the company would not directly harm the already finished game, EA fearing gamers are already wary of what the future may hold, for one of the most successful and popular franchises of all time.

Luckily, Take-Two shareholders have yet to buckle to EA pressure.

Find out all the details after the jump!

Take-Two Interactive, who control the GTA developer RockStar, have a pretty terrifying couple of days ahead of them. By terrifying I mean “sh*t your pants”, “the world is ending”, “where is my insulin” levels of fear. Take-Two’s annual shareholders meeting takes place tonight and EA’s offer to acquire them expires just before midnight on Friday.

Unlike last year’s Take-Two revolt, which witnessed the instillation of six replacements to Take-Two’s board of directors, this years April 15th deadline for shareholders to nominate new candidates for the board, or propose other new business came and went without so much as a mouse fart. Good news.

Take-Two has been hounded by EA to sell out since February. EA’s two billion dollar offer was scoffed at by Take-Two, who claimed that the offer undervalued their franchises and creative talent. EA’s attempt to purchase the company, so close to GTA IV’s release, was viewed as a blatant attempt to jump on what will no doubt be one of the best selling titles of 2008.

A lot can happen in two days, but I think it’s safe to say that if Take-Two shareholders were really planning on selling out, they would have said so by now. I’d like to think that EA will keep their word and start acting like gentlemen, as they claimed they would at this years D.I.C.E. Summit, but I sure as hell am not willing to bet the future of the GTA franchise on that faint hope.

Stay strong Take-Two!

I dont know if Take-Two has any more to offer besides the next GTA… but how far is that? If i were a greedy bastard, as much as i hate EA, i would do it for the money… thats a butt load of money for car insurance!

Talk about a need for a boycott..

EA’s mentality of ‘Who needs to actually HAVE talent, when you can BUY it?” is really getting annoying. Think of the quality games they could be producing if they’d INTERNALIZE the millions of dollars they’re currently using to try to stifle the industry with now..

So very true, all that monies could be put towards something better. Can someone explain to me why EA seem to be attempting to take over the whole games industry? If they own everyone they cannot grow and develop and neither can the industry, it’ll all just flop.
