If I had a dollar for every article that I wrote that began with, “It’s no secret that I am a Stardock, Brad Wardell, fanboy.” I would be a millionaire. Well, here we go again with Stardock. Yesterday, it was announced that two uber companies have joined forces to release the upcoming Demigod title!

The Galactic Civilization series and the more recent Sins of a Solar Empire have left me eagerly awaiting more titles from my current favorite publisher/developer. A close second on my list of favorite developers is Chris Taylor’s Gas Powered Games, responsible for Supreme Commander. Both companies exemplify the very best the PC Gaming industry has to offer in terms of not only quality products, but also post release support and community interaction.
Their combined powers are being used for their latest: a title called Demigod. This game is not your standard strategy, or action-RPG game. Not that anything Gas Powered Games has ever done could be called standard, but this title is primed to blur the conventional divisions between the genres in a whole new way. Described as a “Revolutionary team-based action game that includes RTS, action RPG and fighting game elements,” Demigod has definitely sparked my interest.
There are two character types in the game, General and Assassin, and depending on which you choose, the style of gameplay will change. The Assassin lends itself to more of an action-RPG feel, whereas the General makes the game more of a strategy title. There is even a focus on direct one-on-one Demigod action. I hope a trailer, or gameplay demo drops soon, because I still have no freakin idea what exactly this game is!
The gameplay revolves around a cooperative team effort (human or AI) to defeat your opponents. You’ll be able to level up your Demigod and buy new gear. You’ll “Fight and lead your troops with the goal of pushing the battle into your opponent’s territory and destroying their stronghold.”
Demigod is set to be released sometime during the spring of ‘09, but a beta is in the works for this summer.

A million and a half kudos to Stardock and GPG for what will surely be a release to rock my RTS world.
They really don’t recieve the praise they deserve, so it’s a good thing PMPB is here to give it to them.
