Sony Halts PS Store Updates For… New Art?!?!

Sony’s announced they’re updating the Playstation Store and it’s about time to tell you the truth. It’s been functional, but it’s always left a lot to be desired. In their third generation of home consoles though, I would expect that when asked why they’re freezing updates for two weeks that they could come up with better words to describe the current state of things than “texty”. That’s not even a real word, is it?

The kicker has to be the explanation that they had to create, and I quote, “a whole bunch of new art” for the store. They need two weeks to stop, take a good look at everything and create new art? I’m sorry, but if someone wanted to pay ME to do it, I’m sure I could probably do it in say 2-3 days… 5 tops (and that’s still well within the cycle of store updates). Half the time, all the entries for DLC in the PS Store use the same graphics for each downloadable item anyway. I have to say, it’ll need to be some pretty impressive “new art” for me to really justify two weeks without an update to the store. I’m much more inclined to believe they’re taking three watered down PS Thursdays worth of updates (April 3rd, 10th, and 17th) and making a single compelling April 15th/17th release out of it. I’m not sure if we’re getting a PS Store update on the 17th or if that week’s update will be two days early, but either way… unless this update REALLY delivers, their handling of it is laughable.

I thought the reason it was supposed to take so long was because it was no longer going to be handled by the PS3 web browser.. yatta yatta… or did I dream that up?

I get what you mean though if “art” is their official word on why it will take so long.

Yeh, I heard its now going to be a part of the XMB not a closed connection to a web page of sorts.

Should make things alot more fluid at least. They said it will come with a considerable update other than the look as well.

I love how on that blog, within the next three comments, someone said that the Xbox Marketplace is “pwned.” This is withiut seeing the new one or using it. I don’t understand what is up with the PS3 fanboys always hatin’ on the 360. The 360 has its faults…Im holding my internal DVD drive…in my hands right now, fixing for the third time the “unplayable disk” error. I don’t think I have ever said a completely negative thing about the PS3, but I still concider myself a fanboy…because I enjoy the games. I’ll probabally buy a PS3 eventually when I feel it has enough reasons to do so. Until then, I will enjoy playing my favorite games. There is my rant about fanboyism. Love, Atomic

ive seen some pics of the new version and looks pretty kickass. 2 weeks is a little long though… perhaps in-game XMB for some reason as well?

    • @Ratchet8clank: First, hilarious name… second, I bet you’re (at least close to being) right. I bet it will encompass more than just a store update on April 15th but until they offer up some more solid info, we’re left speculating. Frankly I could see them waiting another update to add in-game XMB to make sure there aren’t any snafus with the new store rather than rolling both things out at once. We’ll see.

Yay for art. It really needs it, the PS store as it stands is a joke.
