So far, you’ve been laughed at by several pompous names in gaming for thinking that a boycott of EA’s Battlefield: Bad Company could have any effect. Several people said no one would support it. They said people just don’t care enough to get behind such an effort.
We say that properly motivated (read “pissed off”) gamers can do amazing things.
On March 27th, the Sarcastic Gamer community, a small tight-knit group of a few thousand friends who would prefer to spend their time gaming and cutting up, began to plant the seed of dissent. They started passing the word out they weren’t going to take EA’s retarded plan to strip mine fans of the Battlefield series for every possible penny with their plans to offer gamers an incomplete game, and to make them pay more to unlock content already on the $60 disc.
Well, I guess the high and mighty detractors were right. No one is talking about your puny boycott of Battlefield: Bad Company. Except maybe this small handful of sites. No big deal right?

This is just a handful of the sites I found talking about this boycott. While the movement is certainly spreading, now is not the time to rest upon the sofa of accomplishment. To all of you who have already jumped in to spread the word, I say we’re just getting started. Get back out there. Start your own boycott. Keep emailing the big boys who’ve yet to acknowledge the existence of this movement. 1up, IGN, GFW, Kotaku all need to be made aware of just how much momentum this movement is gaining.
The work is far from over. This boycott, while growing rapidly, is still far from what it will need to be in order to attract so much as a shrug from publishers.
Don’t stop. Keep up the pressure. YOU are accomplishing amazing things. That’s because at the end of the day, YOU hold all the cards. Your wallet is a lot louder than you think.
To Electronic Arts: There is a simple, easy, FAST way to stop all of this from getting out of hand. Stop this ridiculous and abusive DLC plan. It is a poorly thought-out revenue generating channel. If you want to make money through DLC, sell a complete game, and then support it with maps and game modes that enhance the experience for everyone.
If your site has joined the effort and is not listed above, please take a moment to list yourselves in the comments below and we will be sure that you are added to the roster.

That’s quite a list of links, my good chum.
It seems like this Boycott will at least make some sort of mark out there.

After reading a lot of comments on several of these other sites…I think a lot of people are missing the point…EA wants you to pay to unlock something ALREADY ON THE DISK!. I don’t mind lame DLC…I won’t buy it…but even if I did at least I could take heart in the fact that I was paying developers for extra time spent creating the crappy DLC. In this case…we’re paying twice. Shenanigans!

Congratulations to everyone on their efforts so far! This is quite an impressive list. I was scrolling down and not expecting it to take that long. This is good stuff here gents.

Theres definitely a limit to this tomfoolery and someone has found it. Heres hoping EA kicks themselves in the ass hard enough to realize they messed up.

Apparently if you pre-order through gamestop and give EA your money even faster, you will receive a GameStop Exclusive Limited Edition Sniper Rifle.

You inspired the two of us at tiny little Gaming Dungeon to hold our own boycott on another DLC that’s just as ridiculous. I’ve been supportive of your boycott from the beginning, companies like EA or in our boycott’s example, Square-Enix are going too far. If they see this works EA will start charging for even more stuff and who knows? Square-Enix may charge you for party members in FFXIII. I am getting sick of how DLC has been abused. Rock Band = Good DLC, some map packs = good, this stuff is just awful.

I said it before, and I’ll say it again,
well don’t just sit there masturbating all over your success - you’ve got a following, now do something with it. Instruct the following to email one particular email addy at EA, preferably someone involved with community relations. Send word of the boycott’s momentum to EA by phone, fax, email and carrier pigeon. Don’t just sit there clapping your hands together like a mentally handicapped child playing basketball saying “yay I made a basket” - keep going. You’re fighting the good fight - but keep fighting!
Seriously, what are your future plans?
Good work, and keep it up.

Once we believe that we’ve rallied a sufficient amount of troops, then STAGE 2 will begin.
Stay tuned.
14 What The Geek // Apr 9, 2008 at 12:02 pm
just bear in mind that EA won’t feel the effects of a boycott until the product is actually launched - so until that point they’ll stick with the strategy they’ve already got. Everyone’s got a voice on the internet - and large companies are sorta internet deaf. Be sure to throw it in EA’s face in any way you can - like I said before, phone, fax, email, and carrier pigeon. If you get enough people interested in the boycott who live near an EA office, try to set up a good ol’ fashioned rally. Perhaps you could have people mail something specific (postcard, pic of BF: BC w/ a “no” symbol around it, ect) to the EA offices
Just food for thought. Keep up the good work.

YEAH! been behind this since the beginning. at first i was afraid it wouldnt work so fast. but looking at all the big names behind this…wow.
we DO have more power than we realize, its time we decide how the games should be.
17 Daave3k // Apr 9, 2008 at 1:02 pm
I am in full support of this boycott,
What do you think the chances are that they end up giving the guns away for joining ea online or something and pretend that that was there plan all along?
EA its in the game (but you still have to pay for it).
18 ShagsterP // Apr 9, 2008 at 1:08 pm
I’ve already decided to boycott it, along with my friends I usually play as a squad with on previous Battlefield titles.
I think it’s like this for others, but this is less of a single incident enragement and more of a final straw in a line of straws. Balancing issues, patches causing more problems than fixing them, and EA STILL can’t get their game to stop randomly crashing servers in 2142 (but the last patch was so PERFECT for them that they decided the game no longer needed any support).
This was a long time coming, and I hope it makes a difference. This certainly eased my decision for Call of Duty 4 over this game, and that’s after devotedly playing the previous two Battlefields.

Pretty soon EA will notice this and make a statement and when that comes, I’m going to laugh my ass off…
(But they’ll laugh their ass off all the way to the bank with Madden.)
25 RK1 WhiteKnight // Apr 9, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Were right behind this as well (rk1gaming.net). We started off as a Battlefield clan nearly 3 years ago and EA are simply exploiting the fan base. It would be fine if it was actually down loadable content but its already on the disk.
Anyway I’m glad that someones taking a strong stand on what many communities around the world see as a major issue
