Warhawk for the PS3 is like a fine wine, it only gets better with age. Some of you are new to Warhawk, some of you have long since given up on Warhawk… but a LOT of you still play and enjoy it like me. So, out of the goodness of my heart, I’ve decided to write up some tips and tricks (which may or may not confirm or deny the absence of other ideas of what to write or not write about… possibly.)
We’ll start off with some very basic tips and move into what even some of the more experienced folks will find interesting.
Vehicles - Every vehicle can carry at least two players, but a lot of folks don’t really ever take advantage of this. If the action is far away (ie. you spawned back at the main base by accident or to “gear up”) and you need to get right back in it, don’t walk… drive or fly. Always try to take a buddy with you if possible or hitch a ride yourself. If you really suck at flying, you may want to work on your flying skills before actively picking up teammates because it REALLY sucks to get killed and get your teammate killed because you can’t control a Warhawk. Common courtesy is to briefly touch down at your destination and allow them to get out. I’m sure they’re adequately impressed with your flying skills, but for God’s sake… don’t kidnap them! Tanks and Jeeps are easy enough since people can bail out at will… (and if your vehicle is taking heavy damage, I highly suggest bailing out ASAP.) Most vehicles allow at least some of the passengers to actively fight as well… do your duty as a solder and fight. Jeep turrets may be mostly useless (not as much after the 1.3 Patch was released) but it’s better than just sitting there.
Tanks and passengers - The driver of a tank cannot be killed unless his tank is destroyed. If you’re the passenger (the person that can pop out the hatch on top) you CAN be killed and likely WILL be killed unless you’re careful with your exposure. I don’t recommend riding in the tank while simply checking out the pretty surroundings, it’s just asking to get sniped. Stay inside the tank and only pop out when you’re actively engaging someone. You may not realize it, but you can even change weapons inside the tank. The best combination in my experience has been Tank + Rocket Launcher. You are limited to carrying 6 rockets at once… but it’s really great for covering your backside (literally) while the tank’s big guns do the dirty work up front. Don’t forget that you can throw grenade from the tank either. If you’re being chased by a Jeep, it’s very effective to throw grenades. One of the worst things you can do is jump in a tank as a passenger with only your pistol. Go gear up and then get into a tank.
Warhawks and passengers (extended maps) - Remembering the “don’t kidnap folks” part from up above, the only “real” benefit Warhawk passengers get over simple transportation is they get access to an “extended” map of the battlefield. It’s easy to overlook the differences, but they see everyone on the map. They can relay info via voice chat to teammates that may prove useful. I personally don’t use this, but it DOES have its uses.

Ah proximities.. Delivering instant rage since Goldeneye.
There’s nothing worse than that feeling of knowing your death is seconds away and there’s nothing you can do to stop it. Its that feeling Jeff Daniels had in Speed when they bust into Dennis Hopper’s house.
I agree though, I’d rather be Dennis, than Jeff.

I like to mine my tank, simply because it can survive the blast (of one mine going off), and it acts as a useful extra defense against oncoming grenadiers or jeeps. Of course if someone shoots the mine with THEIR tank… well then you’re pretty much boned… but it’s a good use nonetheless.
And for the record, anyone who wants to play a ps3 sarcastic gamer night while Rothbart’s online better be so freakin observant of your surroundings. He’s not just known for his mining tactics, he’s become a mining legend! In fact if you find yourself on the other team, hit the team change option quickly!!!

I love doing the car bomb, I once took out 5 people (without getting blown up myself) that were trying to save their flag.

Turrets / 50 cals. should be given more attention. They are incredibly useful, especially when defending the flag during those chaotic flagruns. It can even take out a tank pretty fast with an accurate salvo.
