Just when you thought the Burnout series couldn’t go any further off track than the open-world format, Criterion throws another curve ball at us. Taking a page from Bizzare Creation’s book, they’ve announced that the August update for Burnout Paradise will add motorcycles to the mix.
Take a second to let that sink in. Motorcycles in Burnout.
Before we jump all the way to the update in August, let’s take a look at the recently released patch and the upcoming content update.
The first patch, Bogart, was a patch to fix a number of bugs players were experiencing in Paradise City. Nothing huge of note came from the update, but it was supposed to make the experience run more smoothly. Sadly, something in the patch caused many 360 players to be hit by some pretty bad framerate issues that in some cases have made the game unplayable. It looks like the guys over at Criterion will be releasing a patch to revert Paradise back to its original form on Friday. A new, “updated” version of Bogart should be out the first week of May. Let’s hope they learned a thing or two for the next update.
Speaking of the next update, I’m extremely excited for the upcoming content in Cagney. Set for a June release, this update for Paradise will bring something many players have been waiting for since before the game’s release. Online Road Rage, Stunt Run, and Marked Man events. That’s not all, of course, but it’s what really caught my attention when it was announced. With that and the 70 new challenges, including multi-part ones, I can assure you that Burnout Paradise will have a place in my Xbox for a long time to come.
The final update with content announced is named Davis, and will hit sometime in August. This is the update that will add motorbikes and night-time driving to the City. I have absolutely no idea how motorcycles are going to work in Burnout Paradise, but I certainly can’t wait to try it. Even though the cars of Paradise are completely devoid of drivers, you’ll be happy to learn that the bikes will have leather-clad drivers, though we don’t know if they’re going to be included in the visceral crashes or not. It’s likely that Criterion will follow the same vein as the Flatout series and make the driver’s ragdoll physics over-the top and funny as hell. Awesome.
The final update for the year is named Eastwood, and the only hint, we’ve received thus far, is that there will be a brand new area to explore on the other side of the bridge. Right now, it looks like all this content is going to be free. Let me say that again. It looks like all this content will be free. Who else but Criterion would expand their game in such a way with no cost?
Certainly not EA.
Wait.. Doesn’t EA own Criterion? I think my brain is going to explode.
False alarm. You can be sure that any information that comes out about these updates will find its way to Sarcastic Gamer, so stay tuned!

I’m hoping their taking Valve’s “keep patching with compelling patches” and “keep releasing additional add-ons for free” philosophy. I know I’ll be a LOT more likely to buy the next Burnout game now… I was quite hesitant to buy Paradise after the Charlie Foxtrot that was Revenge on the 360.

I thought this was going to be tagged under fake news. I think I’m gonna buy it when I get bored of GTA, with the addition of bikes it will be like Test Drive (IMO one of th better games on the 360) but with awesome crashes.

@S3AB1SCU1T (That was quite a type): I still have to listen to their latest couple casts. Their website didn’t mention Davis would cost money, but oh well. I’m willing to pay. The free content they’ve announced is still pretty bad-ass.

sounds awesome, problem is, it’s rated 3+ in the uk
and there is no way they will get a 3+ rating with bikedrivers getting mangled in the crashes, will the dlc get a different rating to the full game?

Everyone should follow what Valve does. You buy the game, they give new stuff for free so your able to enjoy the game even more. I mean why the hell not? We supported them by buying their game for 60 bucks. Can’t they throw us bones every once in a while as a little thank you? Also allowing the content to be free with lengthen the amount of enjoyment one gets out of their game, Making it a hell of a lot more likely that one would buy their next game.
