Life after Grand Theft Auto 4

April 30th, 2008 · 11 Comments

What the hell are we supposed to do now? After years of waiting and build-up, Grand Theft Auto 4 is here, in stores, and abundantly available. The game we’ve dreamed about has come true, and though it seems to be delivering on all of our expectations I can’t help but feel just a little bit empty now.

I know there’s a lot to look forward to, plenty of games coming down the line that ought to truly impress. Prototype seems like something of a chaotic wet dream, while games like The Force Unleashed might be one of the most innovative games ever to grace this generation of consoles. But still… I can’t be alone here. I can’t help but already miss that anticipation of GTA4.

It’s like noon on Christmas Day, as a kid, where you’ve played with all of your new toys and feel that ever-so-slight twinge of regret. There are no more presents coming.

For now, I’ll have to be content with running over pedestrians and procuring the services of dozens of nearly-identical hookers.

      GTA still doesn’t interest me…

I’ve played just about every one, and it’s just not that fun. The driving elements aren’t done well, combat has always been clunky rather than intuitive, and from what I’ve heard this is still the case in GTA 4.

There’s plenty of other more interesting things coming soon, why not get this excited over them?

Now we start waiting on the patch(es) to cure the bugginess. Anticipation FTW!

Honestly, Ninja Gaiden 2 and MGS4 are much higher on my radar than GTA4. As well as Fable 2.

Now that the over the top hype for GTA4 is over, the over the top hype for another game can begin.

      Prototype = GTA 4 + Assassin’s Creed + Xmen + Hulk

      Prototype > GTA4

Hell yeah! I’m all for hyping up prototype!!
      That game looks ridiculous!

      “Prototype = GTA 4 + Assassin’s Creed + Xmen + Hulk”
Ewww. X-Men and Hulk count as negative. Assassins creed isn’t exactly positive either.

Ninja Gaiden 2 looks like it will be a snooze and MGS4…well the beta fiasco didn’t exactly make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

If it weren’t for Fable 2 and Fallout coming out…well lets not think about that. Now back to GTA IV (which controls a lot better than San Andreas et al.)

im looking forward to saints row 2 and prototype… And because we beat Bad Company into oblivion with the strike, im definitly not purchasing that…

But its true… theres nothing “coming soon” that has the ability to make me all giddy like a school girl…

ahhh well, back to cappin asses and bangin hoes!!

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots….?

Prototype looks to me like a game where the tech will impress me, but the story/gameplay decisions will totally override any interest I have. I’m completely not digging where they’re taking that game.

      Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
      The Force Unleashed
      Halo: Chronicles
      Halo Wars
      Battlefield: Bad Company
      Gears of War 2
      Fallout 3 (?)

      There’s a nice roster…
