Joystiq has just posted the Bad Company Boycott video. Thanks guys! Here’s the link, if you want to go over there and put your stamp on the comments. I’ll let you read the article and judge for yourself how they feel about the boycott. Personally, even though the author may have ambivalent feelings, they share our feelings, but maybe not our conviction.
From the article: “Do we like EA’s idea of charging for individual weapons in an FPS, creating a gap (and it doeswhat EA says) between the haves and have-nots? Of course not. But if you think the game is worth your money regardless, you should buy it and play it. If you don’t want the extra guns, don’t buy them. If that makes it less fun for you, don’t buy their next game. It’s as simple as that.”
You guys are making a difference. Keep it up.

Ya I just say it on Joystiq. Hey guys this is a great campaign and is starting to shape up very nicely. I am kind of upset that it seemed as though he posted it so that we wouldn’t send anymore tips, because he seemed against it. I also didn’t make sense of his comments at all. To me it sounded like he said we should just not buy the game instead of boycotting it. WTF?

I don’t know if he knows the difference. Ah well, I’m just glad they responded to you guys.

I got the feeling the writer wrote that while being irritated that his inbox was constantly overflowing….ah well, Onward to IGN and Kotaku!

I thought the point the author made about the difference between boycotting a game and just not buying it is relevant with everything going on with Rock Band in Europe. I don’t see many people boycotting it, but I do see plenty people (myself included) just not buying the game because it’s not worth the price they’ve put on it.

Glad they posted it, but they were kind of jerks about it. :/

Kotaku responded to my e-mail saying “We posted this weeks ago when it first appeared.”
I told them to please take a minute of their time and look to see if they can do what we’ve asked of them. I have yet to receive a respond.

Sweet! I sent emails to Destructoid, Joystiq and Kotaku last night . Great!
I received this reply from Brian Crecente at Kotaku “We talked about all of the implication weeks ago, back when it was first
announced.”

It’s a real shame that some of the sites are not taking this seriously. They don’t see it as such a big deal. EA has been pulling shady things like this ever since the creation of the Live Marketplace. Ignoring the problems or brushing them aside does not work. As much as a boycott might not work it is something we must try. There is no harm is giving it a shot and letting our voice be heard via our wallets.

I dropped my bomb down on Joystiq. Hopefully the 360 podcast or even IGN’s game scoop will comment on it.

You’re more than welcome to your opinion, it’s just a shame that it’s taken up the show/site to a point where someone who doesn’t even have a strong opinion either way gets turned off to the point of canceling my podcast subscription.
And yes, it’s kinda lame to charge for extra content in this manner, but DLC isn’t all bad. And it’s FAR better than publishers deciding to charge $70 per game to cover the overhead for these next-gen games. NES games used to cost $40 and I think everyone will agree that paying $20 more (20 years later) for a game that’s many times more complex–both to play and to produce–isn’t so bad.
I know there’s little space for a two-sided conversation about stuff like this, especially in a place like a comment thread, but thanks for listening.

Great job everyone! Joystiq was being a big jerk over it, but picking us up is all that matters.
22 Lono // Apr 9, 2008 at 7:00 am
@another perspective: Sorry you feel that way enough to cancel your subscription. If us talking about an issue that you are ambivalent about is enough to get you to cancel, I’m sorry.
Fortunately for us, we’ve had a net positive response. This last episode was one of the most downloaded in our podcast history. I believe we’re doing the right thing…
Maybe wait a few weeks and come back? Thanks for the feedback.

@ktman
US is right. This is everyone’s effort. You guys are making some really awesome things happen

Up on gamepolitics.com now too. A multi-feature post on consumers smacking the industry. Just the perspective we need.
25 Nemyhlovecraft // Apr 9, 2008 at 9:54 am
heh…the article was written by McElroy. Listen to the joystiq podcast. He is up there with Shawn Bettenhausen and Lono as the most curmudgeonly people in gaming enthusiast media today. Though, generally he hates things simply because everyone else likes them…yeah, he’s that guy.
26 Lono // Apr 9, 2008 at 10:11 am
@nemyhlovecraft: To be mentioned with Bettenhausen and McElroy… I don’t know whether to be flattered or pissed… lol…
