I was watching TV this morning and I saw a Wii commercial that I had never seen before. After watching it, the commercial didn’t make any sense to me. I have no idea what the heck is going on with this, so I decided to share it. Maybe you’ll catch the irony of the situation.
There may also be a hidden message?
I found it humorous that the Wii guys went into the HDTV section of the store and broke out the Wii. I thought is was even more funny that the commercial was in wide screen.
I have never liked these commercials. If those two creepy Wii guys showed up at my house, I wouldn’t answer the door. I imagine that most of the world would slam the door in their self-satisfied faces.
Another thing. Why doesn’t the other one talk? Are they the Jay and Silent Bob of the orient or is he just the pack mule?

There are actually wii games out there stating HD support on the box..
I’m not sure what the mean by that but I was very embarrassed that I actually had to explain to my friends that a machine with a 729 MHz cpu and a 243 MHz gpu is hardly capable of rendering in high definition

Hd monitors are not that high of res people seem to think they are the ultimate they are not if fact in the PC monitor and pixel pushing world they are nothing.
720P is the 16:9 version of 4:3 PC monitors 1024×768 and to PC people that was high res in 1997 back when we played quake 1 and quake 2 or if we was going retro doom, but that only went to 640×480, (standard TV RES 480p) on dial up modems.
HD on consoles is pathtic compared to PC monitors.
the WII can display HD if it wants, can it when it is busy doing a tons of special effects and pushing out lots of polygons like metroid prime 3 at a good frame rate? or mario galaxy..
No
can it do something that looks like quake 2 in HD? Yes, the xbox 1 could do this and it’s GPU was much slower than Wii’s.
All it has to do is pump out the res and send the proper flags over the correct cable to the TV.
So what you get when you bought a XBox 1 or wii now is PC tec from 10 years ago.
and your new shiny consoles like ps3 are running at low PC res on most of the games and a GPU based on Pc GPUs from around 2004 and quite old.
If a game maker wanted to work technical magic with the wii they can make it do 1080p for a game if they wanted.
The ps2 was not supposed to output DTS sound in anyway and they got it to.

OH and the Wii out puts smash bros on 480p 16:9.
That can only be done on a EDTV or a HDTV, with the cables, so the AD is not really saying anything.
They was all 16:9 tv’s most likey can support 480p in the TV AD.
So the only place to go to play Wii in that better mode is HD part of the store since you will never find a EDTV anymore or standard TV with 480p support or a square 4:3 tv that pushes out 16:9 that is not letterboxed.

So yes I play my wii in widescreen progressive scan all the time on my HDTV’s where have you been?
Hell i played my gamecube in widescreen 480p.
and xbox, ps2 and I even got some dreamcast games that can do that.

What the HECK are you talking about, Cube? HD monitors are WAY better than your traditional pixel monitors…because that’s EXACTLY what they are, they just managed to cram more on the actual monitor, and make it thinner.
This allows a much higher res signal to be carried through a more advanced cord. Also, just because you CAN play a game on an HDTV doesn’t mean that the game is High-Def. You’re seriously asserting that the DREAMCAST was a HIGH-DEF console? Are you insane?

YA there huge monitors that can only put out
HDTV at 1080 p only display up to 1920×1080 progrssive scan they are not the same as a High end PC monitor. serious just now the things are only getting into 120hz refresh rates.
That is max for any size 50 inch 19inch what ever that is the max for all makers 99% of the time,.
my 2 30 inch Apple Cinema Display Pc/mac monitor can go up to
2560 x 1600 16×9 widescreen resolution more pixels are packed ionto the 30 inch space than the 50 inch HDTV.
Yes i Do play games at this res and up scale bluray disc it is much better looking. in fact my 1080p blueray disc have to be upscaled or they will not fill with whole pixel area of the monitor the 1080p res is too small.
to top that off how many games put put in true non upscaled 1080p? almost none ther all 720p or in case of wii 480p 16×9.
And I would like to see where I said the dreamcast could output 480p 640×480 at 16:9 in progrssive scan mode Try doing that on your standard TVs that only have S-video jacks you will not get a picture I never said it was HD i said HD TV are the common TV used to output 480P 16:9.
If you wanted to play smash bros in 480p 16:9 mode “today” You wil have to go down and buy a HD TV to do that. unless you find some freak of nature TV or a old EDTV from 1999 somewhere.
Or some freaskish TV that is 16:9 but only is standard def 480i.
I have never seen an old sqaure box 4:3 standard DEF TV anywhere that can output 480p progessive scan, If you found one before only HD took over and they was the only one porgrssive scan capable then you found a rare pokemon! enjoy it.

There dreamcast can output 480p 16×9 and you can not use that mode on a standard DEF TV. I said you have to HAVE a HDTV or EDTV to use that mode I never said it was high DEF.
Then again we could always start the age old debate that only 1080i/1080p is high DEF nad 720p is not but people beat that to death already.

@cube
Why don’t you brag about your gaming rig a little more.
9 Cube // Apr 1, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Just pointing the wii can display in wide screen and progrssive scan and you would need a HDTV or EDTV to do it.
Ohh and the part where HDTV are not that high res displays.
A 30 inch PC monitor is cheeper than a HDTV how could i be bragging?
That makes no sense in fact it’s kind of funny.

You do realise though that pixels aren’t everything, right?
