Foreigners Get Boned Again!

April 16th, 2008 · 18 Comments

The duel shock 3 is coming out in Australia on April 24th. Finally, the Aussies will get some rumble out of their PS3’s. The only problem is that they have to bend over and grab their ankles first.

Ouch!

The price of this vibrating piece of plastic will be $99.95, Aussie bucks, or $92 USD. Is there any reason to charge that much? It’s almost twice the price and COLD AS ICE. The same thing happened with the EU Rock Band. I feel bad for those poor HOT BLOODED gamers down under, the DS3 is $55 USD here and I still haven’t allocated enough resources to get one. Of course, I’m just a DIRTY WHITE BOY.

I wish I could say that this FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME, but the EU and other countries constantly get game related products later and have to pay more. I suppose it’s the same with Japan getting Nintendo products before everyone else, but who really cares about that? Personally, I think it’s BS and there’s got to be a better way.

Sure they quote taxes and tariffs, but if it’s that big of an issue, there are solutions. Like build them there. Not only will that create local jobs, but they’ll be cheaper for consumers. Then you’ll sell more of your product(s). See, problem solved!

I think this needs URGENT attention. Please Sony, stop playing these HEAD GAMES and start charging the Aussies reasonable prices.

      Just look at the recent changes to the European PSN as opposed to the American version.

      @Lono
      Couldn’t agree more…

      Keep up the good work Dave! Thanks for spreading the news about how gaming gives the thumbs up to the US, but flips it to the finger for the Brits…

      Thats what you get when you throw socialism into the mix. Its because of taxes and tariffs that these products cost so much money to import.

      And its not that easy to “just build them there”, if Sony had to build an assembly line in every country, they’d go out of business right away. Dave, please know what the hell you are talking about before making Sony out to be the devil. Its not like they don’t want to sell a controller to every man, woman and child over there….
      *sigh

      @LorD: it’s DAVEconomics …. It’s science!

      Yeah, stop screwing us Aussies!!!
      also, its more like $93,9 USD.
      not to nitpick or anything…

      @LorD
      There has to be somewhere in this world that they can build these things that will keep the cost down around the world. Maybe China?

      @Dave
      They already are made in China

      @Dave

      It doesn’t matter how cheap they are to manufacture, if the Australian government is gonna stomp taxes and tariffs on it.

      A quick google search tells me that $55 USD is $58.53 Australian Dollars. Another quick google search tells me that tariffs and taxes in Australia are 10% to 26%, and thats JUST so that the item can land on its shores.

      Add sales tax, tax on this, and that, and you reach your $94 AUD price quite quickly, and Sony had nothing to do with it.

      it does suck how Australians and Europeans have to wait all these extra month to play then get told the price is up. but i would have thought that Europe would have enough sales of games to warrant a factory to build the games over there instead of having to ship the games over.

      i dont even have a official release date for rockband yet.!

      oh well at least gta 4 is treating us right except with the dam censored version coming to Australia and there not telling us what there taking out.

      import it, its cheaper.

      get the white one from japan, so awesome looking.

      Geez us poor Aussies get screwed over again $$$

      Cheers for the sympathy guys. It sucks ass to be a gamer down under sometimes. Not only are we getting censored versions of AAA titles, we’re paying twice as much for them too.

      I’ve taken to importing my stuff now, and it feels oh so good - suck it OFLC. And go to hell you greedy distributors, I hope you burn. BURNNN!!

      I just asked at EB (Australia) today, and it’s confirmed, we’re getting Rock Band in September…. so yeah not even getting an Xbox release at the same time as the UK.

      It’s only a year late, and my whole waiting, overjoyed and excited has worn thin, and with another three months? Over it.

      Although you may be correct with the australian version LorD, I think with regards the rock band fiasco its simply a case of adding a mark up just because they can. I don’t mind the prices of game s being higher here than in the US as the cost of living is higher and so are wages. But that the products are now more in £ than in Dollars (ie $170 US, £180 UK) is an obvious mark up. Gits. Hope the singstar mics work on the 360 as then all i’ll need are drums and games
