A Star Wars Geek Am I.

April 8th, 2008 · 9 Comments

I recently got my hands on Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy for the PSP, a little late, I know. I’ll have to admit, I was skeptical, but I had to try it out. I’m sure many a review has been released about this game, but damn it, I’m going to chip in my two cents.

I picked this for the PSP, since I have tons of time to kill while I’m at work. Good thing the boss doesn’t read this. I was looking for the complete saga, which they don’t actually make for the PSP, then I remembered that the first three movies were the only ones that counted. As I loaded the game I had to ask myself, am I a Star Wars geek?

The answer to that question is a resounding, “YES.” This game brought me back to the time when I was 9 and I tried to record the trilogy off basic cable. All I’m going to say is, skipping commercials was a pain in the ass in the days before Tivo.

With the exception of Battle Front II, this is one of the first games I have played in a while that lets you play as the original heroes. Even then, there was no old school Obi-Wan. I really liked that. Diving in and playing as my favorite characters was tons of fun and the random “funny moments” during the cut scenes were good for a few chuckles.

It was nice to play the abridged trilogy from start to finish. The best part was that you really have to play it all over again in order to get all of the hidden objects. When you go into free play mode, you’ll be able to select any character you want, which helps get all of the hidden stuff, seeing as how there were some levels that required Jedi powers when you were not given a Jedi. Be sure that when you have one you “use the force.”

*Ahem*

All in all, I enjoyed the hell out of this game. No matter what format you play it on, give it a shot. A lot of rated E games are total crap, just look at the majority of the Wii’s catalogue, but I think it’s something that adults and kids can enjoy together or separately. There maybe hope yet for the E rating, especially with Lego Indiana Jones and Batman coming up.

I expected the title to be “A Star Wars Geek I Am.” That’s how Yoda would’ve said it… :D

I’m a Star Wars geek too. The LEGO Star Wars games were a lot of fun, but The Force Unleashed is going to be awesome!

I have the game for my PSP to and I loved it. I played for over 57 hours trying to get 100% cleared, which is the longest I have spent on a PSP game, and longer then most other games too.

Agree 100%. We have the complete saga for the (shh… Wii) and it’s consistently the one game that we’ll all waste hours on. Lots of fun and the cut scenes just add so much atmosphere and laughter.

      Doc

For someone that I’ve grown to like over the past few months, the question “Does Star Wars still matter?” cut me deep and then your first response cut me ever worse. But in some ways, I have to agree and in other ways I have to completely disagree.

I agree that Star Wars games and animated movies are horrible. Please, don’t make me sit through anymore of those. I remember when it was cool to be a Star Wars nut, but those days have passed.

I disagree because the novels of the extended universe are AWESOME and give you a depth that only a true fan can enjoy. The movies tended to tick everyone off, but I think they all had their place in the Star Wars universe. Not only that, but when I think of my days as a young kid watching the original movies I get teary eyed and I wish I could get back to those days of just wanting to fight the evil Empire.

Does Star Wars still matter? You betcha, because when you come down to it, everyone wants to be a hero that is fighting the Empire and saving the galaxy, whether you are a Jedi or freighter pilot or in Dave’s case a Princess.
