When Infinity Ward claims variety, they certainly mean it. Each of the maps in the Variety Map pack that was released on Friday, albeit with a few hiccups, are completely different from one another.
For some reason, I’m known in the Sarcastic Gamer community for my Call of Duty 4 skills. I think Lono has something to do with it, I’m not really sure. In any case, I thought it best to give some of my impressions on the new map pack, and whether or not it’s actually worth the $10.
Broadcast - If you’ve played through the single player campaign, you’re already somewhat familiar with the layout of this map. Taken directly from the mission “Charlie Don’t Surf,” the map features a lot of indoor action through the narrow hallways and entrances. Most of the fighting seems to take place at Domination point C, though, which can be found on the roof.
While the map is mostly indoors, there is a large parking lot and two smaller houses outside of the main building. Domination point A can be found out there, and because it’s outside of the main building, it seems that these buildings are usually neglected a bit. This also means that when a squad of enemies do decide to take it, it can catch your team off-guard. As I’ve noticed, there is normally a sniper in that building, and while the view is limited, a sniper can pick off enemies going to C, and possibly anyone making a run to his position.
Broadcast is certainly something different to Call of Duty 4. It reminds me alot of Vacant, which isn’t a bad thing and it has some great open areas as well. There is alot of indoor gunfights, but it also tends to pull itself outside and onto the roof from time to time. From my experience, this map is perfect for Sabotage and Headquarters. It can be fun on Domination, but it usually turns into a fight for B and C while A sits quietly in the corner.

I expected there would be at least 1 map that I didn’t like but I loved all of them. Variety really was the perfect name for the pack. I did a private match free for all with my clan that was shotguns/RPG’s only and it was insane. This was definitely one of the best, if not the best, downloads I’ve purchased so far on XBL.

To bad they were delayed on the PS3, and GTA IV will be out a week after the maps come out on the PS3, I don’t know if I’ll but them :/

Agree about the resemblance between Broadcast and Vacant. When you think it out they are almost identical, just configured differently. Wish it wasn’t so centered about C though. Great thing about Vacant is getting to run around the various corridors with a shotgun, but on Broadcast you could run around the corridors and never see a soul because they’re all outside.
Anybody know what type of games Killhouse will be added to? I know for the first weekend it was just Cage and Free For All but I’ve not gotten to play it yet and would love to see it added to Team Objective for some Shipment like craziness.

man, I was dissapointed by the fact they were delayed for my PS3, by the time they come out ill be hooked on GTA4, to consider buying them.
I mean we ge to play them 3 weeks later, why???, because some asswhipe decided it was a “smart” move.

Actually the reason the call of duty 4 maps were delayed were due to the PSN store getting revamped. There will be no new downloads until ( i am assuming april 17). nobody decided it was a smart move but they were compelled to. But we still get a new store that’s a better upgrade from the mouse control .

@Phoenix: If that’s the reason then why is there no sign of new maps for the PC? Not like the internet has been shut down for revamping.
I was under the impression that a conscious decision had been made to release the maps for the 360 first.

Bah, the utter suggestion of using an M16 leaves a bad taste.

[...] If you’re picking up the maps for the first time this weekend (and why wouldn’t you?) I suggest you hop into the Delorean and head back in time to when the maps were first released to read my impressions on them. [...]
