Good grief. What a chore getting that map pack huh? When I finally got past the error code 89897877a or whatever it said, I realized I didn’t have the points to get the pack. So I added points, and guess what? The payment processor is apparently smoking out there in Redmond tonight too. So 30 minutes later I added the 1000 points (notice nothing COSTS a thousand points? more on that in a minute) and then flipped blades for another 10 minutes until it finally let me start downloading, only to find out that unlike other things I’ve downloaded, my only choice on this download is to stare at the progress meter. Can’t play arcade games or anything, or what happens? You guessed it, download stops. The first time I saw that I almost cried. Fortunately, when I resumed my download it picked up where it left off, but alas, my 360 is now part of all of the net congestion brought on by this, the great and incredible day that we get even more maps for Call of Duty 4 Jesus.

Okay back to the points thing. Today is THE DAY to have an arcade game for sale. MILLIONS of gamers are going to have HUNDREDS of leftover points when this is over. Sales of stupid shit, like Undertow or Shadowrun Themes are going to be skyrocketing. Sure some people will just leave the points in the account, while MS earns millions in interest on it, but I can’t stand to have a balance in my XBL account.

I buy all kinds of stupid crap when I have leftover points. I have the WORMS theme. Ya. I know…. just stupid. I don’t even play Worms, and if I did, I still couldn’t justify spending money on a theme about it. I mean if you’re going to buy a theme… Worms? But I guess I was bored to death and couldn’t hink of crap else to do at the time with those extra points.

UPDATE: Download 100% apparently means nothing. It just gave me a download failed message. Then I resumed and it reverted to 96 %…. Wow I’ll be the server rooms at MS look like Wall Street tonight. I feel sorry for whatever little indie crew was releasing an Arcade title tonight…. While they will certainly benefit from the scrap points in the kitty tomorrow, there ain’t no way anyone else is selling crud.

Ahh lucky guy… I’m still at the waiting for it to work long enough to add points so I can wait a little more trying to download it stage.
My plans of a CoD4 study break tomorrow afternoon don’t seem very promising. Looks like Microsoft are going to be keeping my head in this Parapsychology textbook for the foreseeable future.
this happened to you too, man i thought it was my console about to red ring, i even called the xbox live hotline but they put me on hold. but when i returned to my console, it worked.
I got my maps pretty early so i had no problems like this.
I only got it back yesterday so, if that happened to me, i think i might have cried
have they hit psn yet?
oh and you should relay leave spare point on your account rather than buying crap, because after a while youll be able to get something good with them.

I would just like you state that I had no problem getting the maps yesterday. Sadly I won’t get to see them until Monday night.
4 of us tried to get a game of COD4 around midnight on Friday (UK time) and decided the whole this was just a LOLocaust. Fair play though to infinity ward for making such a popular game.
Seeing that it was obvious that we were wasting our time during the initial rush, we bailed and played Halo3 in 4-player co-op mode. Amazing scenes.
downloaded the maps no probs in sunny scotland although must confess to being slightly dissapointed..killhouse”wot a f****n waste of time that was!!and the carentan remake wasnt much better i want new maps not a chinese version of an old map!!broadcast was pretty cool had a few good battles on there but would def say creek is the best by far !!got somethin for everyone and visually the most impressive…but over all i was hopin for more!
So what if we take the money from the Bad Company boycott and just send it to Microsoft to buy some more servers? Or better yet, we could go the Sally Struthers route and gamers could “adopt” a server. I would send mine loving letters about my life and how great things like food and happiness are. Then I would remind it that it is only a machine and it will never have emotions…then it would probably red ring and implode.
Or maybe Microsoft could just learn how to manage their server load…
Doc, you’re complaining about hundreds of spare points on XBOX Live. How about the PSN Store, where you can update with 5 euro’s/dollars at a time and everything has a price that ends with .99.
I am stuck with a bunch of cents in my account and the only way to ever clear that is to make 100 purchases.
At least you can get some games for those points, my wallet is excess bagage…
The map pack for COD4 is free. If you haven’t gotten it yet, go to your local game retailer, tell them you already purchased COD4 and that you’d like the map pack (that is coming free with COD4: game of the year edition) and they should give you the token coupon for free. Follow the instructions to get the Xbox Live Redemption code off the website listed on the coupon and you get the maps for free.
