WoW 2.4 hits, Wrath of the Lich King inbound.

Yesterday was patch day in Azeroth, kiddos. While that normally isn’t much of an occassion, 2.4 is something special to many WoW players. Not because of any features or changes made to the game, no. 2.4 is the final major patch leading up to the release of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.

Excited yet? You should be. Follow me over the jump, to get my impressions on the changes.

While I could go into details explaining exactly what all the patch entailed, I’d like you to be awake to read the end of the article. So I’ll just highlight the few big changes and leave a link for anyone wanting to check out all the notes.

The biggest addition, of course, is the new Sunwell Isle. This little island popped up just north of the Eastern Kingdoms yesterday afternoon, and features a new quest hub, a 5-man instance, and a 25-man raid. Of course, that means new quest rewards in gear and recipes. The new content on the island should hold some players over for a few days, at least. This is what I’m most excited about. Even though my guild doesn’t raid, our 5-man is looking forward to tackling the Sunwell. Let’s just hope it’s interesting enough to go back for more.

That’s not all! Not interested in instances or new quests? Are you more of a PvP guy? Well 2.4 introduced a brand new way to get your pvp on - the Tournament Realm. You do have to register to get into this realm, which I hope changes sometime in the future, but for now, it’s the realm for those truly passionate about ganking their fellow player.

What makes the Tournament realm worth it? You get to start with a level 70 player with your choice of some awesome pvp gear to head to the arena with. Most interesting is that the realm is going to be set for a world-wide PvP tournament. You’re not just fighting for bragging rights, either. The top 3-man team in the world will walk away from their computers with a cool $75,000 to split. Regional winners will recieve $15,000. That’s nothing to sneeze at, for playing an MMO.

Finally, now its time for all the chatter in the WoW community to turn toward Wrath of the Lich King. While no release date has been set for the anticipated expansion pack, Blizzard has mentioned that 2.4 would be the last major content release before Wrath. With Warhammer looming on the horizon, I can’t see Blizzard waiting too long to release the expansion to contend with any potential threats to their throne.

If you want to get all the details about the patch, you can check it out here.

I played the game for a while and loved it, but i noticed that it´s too time-consuming. Was looking forward to Wrath, but well, i headed back to my 360.
BTW, I REALLY love your Battlefield: BC banners :D

Was GM of a guild that killed Illidan. Then walked away. It was a lot of fun but I just can’t keep playing it without the raiding experience, and that takes too much commitment.

      All or nothing for me.

I ran it last night as a healer, it was a nice change of pace, and the length doesn’t bother me at all..

I would probably rather have a shorter instance than a long one anyway, compare CoT:Dark Portal and Blackrock Depths, yea BRD has much more to see but for a 5-man group with no high level help it can take you up to 5 hours to clear, where as a shorter one takes 45 minutes.

In my opinion its just nicer to not feel like your stuck in an instance for half the day.
