What’s better than Call of Duty 4? More Call of Duty 4! We all knew that new maps were coming for Infinity Ward’s blockbuster shooter, but we just got some juicy details on two of them.
Well thankfully, Gamespot, yes Gamespot, got some hands-on time with the new maps, and we’re here to relay that information to you.
One tasty nugget from Robert “Fourzerotwo” Bowling was the revelation that the environments in the game were no longer going to be strictly Middle Eastern or Russian settings. Since the team has moved on from the campaign, they’re free to work on different areas. Even that slight change should breathe some fresh air into the multiplayer.
That’s not to say that every map will deviate from the current environment. The first map to be revealed will be called “Broadcast.” It’s taken straight from the TV station in the single player campaign. I can only imagine the types of battles that may be waged in such a structure. Most of CoD4’s current maps are either completely open, or one level. Broadcast will feature 2 floors filled with small rooms, hallways, and multiple routes into the main room on the first floor. The map also features a roof and a large parking lot, meaning your helicopters won’t just be there for moral support.

One completely new map that was revealed will be called “Creek.” Creek could be a breath of fresh air I talked about earlier. This map has definitely got my Sniper Senses tingling. Gamespot described it as a “Very large-scale outdoor map with a small cluster of houses on one side of it.” There’s going to be a huge ravine around the map with plenty of paths in and out of it. Therewill also be a cave that will wind underneath a hill for you sneaky types out there. Sounds like snipers will have to watch their backs, such an open environment comes with a price.

There will be 4 maps in the upcoming pack, though only these two were revealed thus far. The other two are tentatively named “Chinatown” and “Killhouse.” Killhouse was described as a variation on the training level from the single player campaign. Sounds like good times.
The Pack will be available on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 sometime soon for an unannounced price. Hopefully, they don’t stick us too hard with it, but thus far I think $5 would be a healthy price to pay. The pack is also coming to PC, but no pricing details have been released. Due to IW’s history, it wouldn’t be unheard of to have it be released for free. One can only hope. Now get your asses moving IW, cause I’m sick and tired of Overgrown, Vacant and Crash.

Cool stuff, liking the thought of playing in that TV Station.
Isn’t Kill House also the name of the multiplayer level in R6:Vegas, that takes place in a training ground area???

Sounds great! Shoot, even $10 wouldn’t be bad for _4_ maps. All of which are full featured… *caugh*neveragainBungie*caugh*
I love how most of these maps have those discreet little side areas that NO ONE seems to ever go to, very much. Yet that add that much to the map, and just create this cool “not trapped in a killbox” feeling.

chinatown sounds like it might be interesting.

$5? Really? You really think they are going to release new map packs at a reasonable price? Someone’s in dream land.
COD4 is 5x more popular than previous installments in the series and THOSE had expensive map packs. You obviously don’t remember that.

If you’re so sick and tired of those maps, Animathias, you can take leave during your tournament battles. I’d be happy to play in your place.

Video of “Chinatown” can be found here. It’s a remake of Carantan from COD2. Should be fun

So far my favorites of the new maps are as follows:
1: Creek
2:Broadcast
3: Chinatown
-My first impressions-
Creek is pretty original. My only problem is that it’s VERY one sided. The spawn at the top (the level is essentially a hill or slope, both sides have houses) is much easier to keep control of and much easier to recover or “hold down”. It’s just a lot easier to survive or win gun fights from the other team.
Broadcast is pretty sweet. Surprisingly, more of the fighting takes place outside or on the roof/parkinglot area, where everyone fights to hold territory there. It can be a bit confusing, but doesn’t ever really feel onesided. Snipers are a b*#ch but are pretty easily killed as well.
Chinatown pisses me off. Eventually I’ve figured out the “system” to Chinatown (the hotspot or place to hold) but it feels just like Countdown but with buildings. Anytime you think you’re covered someone either throws a nade into your house, in which it’s usually ridiculously difficult to escape, or shoots you from a flank side where you think you have cover. It’s easier once you understand the map a bit, but it’s still quite, aggravating.
I haven’t played much killhouse, it is quite small.
I think the map pack was very well designed and it was worth my ten bucks.
