Up and at em sleepy head. Grab a cup of coffee and a bagel, and let’s talk Playstation 3 development. Nothing too deep. Just a few words and a video.
We’ve heard a lot of developers complain about how challenging it was to learn to develop software for the PS3. Well apparently, the folks over at Thatgamecompany (flOw, Flower) have started something in their studios that they like to call the 24hr Game Jam.
As if game developers weren’t already spending way too much of their lives at work, the folks at Thatgamecompany seem to enjoy getting together at 10am on a Saturday, and making a game for 24 straight hours. Sunday morning at 10am the game is locked and it is what it is.
They just finished their first such endeavor, a title they are calling Gravedigger. While it reminds me of a cross between Pitfall, Centipede, Missile Command, and Lemmings, it does have some charm to it, as well as lots of sounds they borrowed from classic games like Super Mario Brothers.
Enjoy that coffee…. and not so much cream cheese on the bagel next time…. Remember… you’re on a diet.
Not bad for 24 hours in development right? Sadly THAT looks like a lot more fun than a lot of games that some devs spend years on.Have a good day.

Most Game companies spend that amount of time deciding if the main character’s T-Shirt should be Yellow or Blue.

Gotta love the Altered Beast sound effects.
Who are these “Sarcastic Gamers” that are no longer jabbing the PS3 with sharp sticks?
I feel slightly uncomfortable. Maybe _I_ should start hating on the PS3…
@Rothbart: we report truth. When anything is messed up we report it. When cool stuff comes out we report it. PS3 messed a ton of stuff up, but seem to be making up for it recently.
@Lono… I think he was just kidding around.
