It’s no secret that I was more than a little worked up about the recent release from Kaos and THQ, Frontlines: Fuel of War. I bought a copy and jammed it into my 360 for what turned out to be a fun, yet frustrating experience. Still a “buy” in my book, but not without a bit of a disclaimer. Read on…
The single player experience exceeded my expectations to a certain extent, thanks in part to a less than stellar SP demo that came out about a month ago. I found the weapons handled well, the AI had great aim, and the freedom to go vertical as much as you can, was a breath of fresh air. I am a long way from finishing this game, but I’m already enjoying that aspect much more than expected. I wish I could say more, but again, I need to spend more time with the game.
With regard to the multiplayer side of things, I’ll start off by saying that once you get IN to a multiplayer match, Frontlines is a really fun multiplayer experience. While the graphics seem to pale in comparison to titles like CoD 4, the gameplay is engaging enough to only rarely make that noticeable. The real problem for Frontlines players rears its head before you ever get to that point though. The matchmaking is nearly broken. (The dirty truth: Next page)

I hear ya man. Loved playing the demo. The vehicles are awesome to drive in. Sniping is fun, and it ticks the people you are sniping off. Drones are a blast, though you didn’t mention the other drones you are able to use, on the Red Star Alliance you have this fast RC car packed with C4 explosives, and then you get this RC helicopter that fires rockets.
Yeah if they can put out a patch to fix some or all these Issue I will have a big smile on my face as I really do like playing this game a lot even with the frustration you get some times.
The PC game has a billion and one technical problems with it right now unfortunately, with a lot of Online Server Lobby connection issues, but the game overall is incredible. One or two hot patches will fix it right up I’m sure.
I think I played this game for 10 hours the first couple of days the offline game is fantastic(!) but the online game, at least in Europe, just seems to not work. whenever I get into a game I actually get kicked from XBL, not just the server but the green circle appears saying I have been disconnected. I was pretty upset, but I will give it another shot.
I don’t think it deserved some of the comments it got on Metacritic like “Finally a lag-free online shooter! A shame it comes at the expense of the Campaign.” It was fun!
i can’t wait to buy the game.
i would have got it on its release date, but it came down to paying for tuition or for games.
i chose tuition this time but can’t wait for that pay check!

All,
The ’session no longer available’ message should now be fixed on ALL US-based servers that have a player count of 0/32. For the Europe servers, I am still working on it. (They should be all fixed within an hour or so of this posting.)
With that being said, I’d also like to make a few points:
- This fix is only for the retail game servers. The demo game servers will be patched later this week. (It requires a different fix.)
- If there are any servers that still show this error, please PM me and well as post here so that I don’t received 1000’s of PM’s for the same issue.
- There are other reasons why the ’session no longer available’ message is displayed. We are still working on these.
Thanks!
I was thinking of buying it, but now…
I remember the hit detection being really bad in the online demo. Did they fix that for the retail version?
The hit detection is spot on unless you’re in a laggy room. Easy way to check if you have lag, or how to time it is to fire a few shots at a wall and see how long it takes for the bullets to register. Same thing applies to Rainbow 6: Vegas, it’s an easy way to figure out how much you need to lead and just what kind of strategy you need to employ.
This game is a great game i love using my drones to blow some people up on Gnaw(my new fav map) and i am still trying to master the jets(damn there hard to fly) but i love everything about this game even the single player. +achievements are nice 2
