Ahh cosplay, that wacky attempt by die hard super fans *cough* super lonely nerds *cough* to take on the persona of their favorite fictional characters has reached a whole new level of fandom. UK cosplayers have set a Guinness World Record for “The Largest Gathering of Games Characters.”
Find out all the details after the jump!
The event took place on the Millennium Bridge in London and over 80 cosplayers turned up to set the first record in the category. Sonic the Hedgehog, Lara Croft, Gordon Freeman and several Final Fantasy characters were among the costumed supernerds to make an appearance.
It must be said that this record is totally meaningless since this record is brand new. Anyone who has been to Comic Con knows that 80 people dressed up as gaming characters is nothing. Also, I just want to point out that most of the costumes at the event were not even close to as great as many costumes that we’ve seen over the years at the big conventions. They did seem to be having fun though, and they did get their names in the Guinness Book, which is pretty cool.
Maybe one day I’ll try my hand at making a Nano Suit (Crysis) and rock it in public, but for now I’ll leave the cosplay up to the people who like broadcasting their super nerdness to the world.
